Hi all,

I’ve been on 50 mcg of levothyroxine for 5 weeks for aiding conception as my TSH was 4.5 and T4 of 10 as was TTC for over 7 months and no luck so far . I’m am 28 year old and regular periods , but have sluggish thyroid (subclinical hypothyroidism, low iron and low ferritin )

how soon after taking levothyroxine for fertility did you fall pregnant ?

im trying not to get my hopes up but have read conflicting things online , some saying within 6 weeks of starting the medication etc ,

any experiences / advice welcome

thank you

I am really sorry, I feel for you here. My TSH was also 4.5 in September and my doctor suggested taking a small dose if hadn’t improved. Life had been really busy for me around that time, but with some commitment and time, I was able to balance my TSH and I took another blood test, it is now at 3.10.

I did a lot of supplementing, especially with Iron. Prioritised sleep and less stress. I am still on my journey to conceiving, hang in there ❤️

Thank you for this ❤️

There is a lot of information out there and it can be very overwhelming can’t it ?

Good luck on your journey too ❤️

Sorry to hear about your struggles! My TSH was also 4.5 in September, went onto 25mcg and it went down to 2.6 in November but then back up to 3.81 in December so now I’ve been upped to 50mcg then will be retested in 8 weeks time, I’m under my NHS fertility clinic and they want my TSH level to be less than 2 for ttc, so it’s just trial and error of doses for now. I had been struggling to conceive and seen a difference in my cycles and symptoms I would usually get around ovulation from June, and since being on even the 25mcg since September, this December cycle is the first time I’ve had all my usual ovulation signals and got a peak for the first time this year on ovulation tests, so that’s a plus!
Are they going to retest your levels to see how the medication is doing? I’m sorry I don’t have the answer for you yet, but I’ve been on levothyroxine since September and only this month is when I’ve seen more positive signs around my fertile window, do you use OPK’s or anything?

Thank you for your reply ❤️

just had my 6 weeks bloods and my TSH is 2.5 and T4 11.5 🤞🏻

do you feel any dizziness on the medication ? I can’t describe it , but just feel ‘off ‘ sometimes when I am out and about , maybe it’s my body getting used to the medication.

Baby dust to you too ✨✨🤞🏻

Aw that’s so good to hear! Did they say they were keeping you on the 50mcg dose then?

I don’t think I feel dizzy, but I do have less of an appetite on them, so some days I might be lacking in sugar and maybe feel a little off due to low blood sugars, might be that for you also?

BlackCatGoesHome · 19/12/2025 14:44

Within four weeks of the dose being right.

I’ve been prescribed another 2 months of 50mcg, but I’m paying for it privately at the moment with a private endocrinologist I’m due to speak to her after Christmas about my raised prolactin too 🤞🏻

I didn’t have any luck with my NHS GP prescribing levothyroxine , apparently you have to be over 10 TSH?

& yes it could be sugar when I’ve been feeling dizzy, I might speak to my endocrinologist about feeling dizzy and see what she says ❤️

thank you 🦋

Ah, that’s a shame your nhs gp was like that, anything over 4.5 should be followed up with a doctor appointment to discuss possible treatment, I’ve heard a few people have struggled to get levothyroxine from their gp even if they were over the 4.5 threshold, I think I was only given it due to my fertility consultant backing me up on my levels needing to be under 2.5, along with my family history of my nana, mam and sister having under active thyroid also, Graves’ disease is also in my family so they’re looking into that also.

Yeah I would talk to her and see what she says about the dizziness.

I hope all goes well for you!😊
