Is this normal?

I woke up this morning, feeling totally fine all in all, to find this on my sheets. I am 6 weeks 3 days pregnant. I’m really worried this isn’t normal but could it just be spotting? It doesn’t seem to be ongoing

Oh I know the worry, the thing with any bleeding in pregnancy is that, although not normal, it is very common. There's a wide range of possibilities - a small hematoma that's sorted itself out, irritated cervix, or just wacky hormones. Of course, there is always the risk that something has gone wrong, but that can happen without bleeding.

Essentially, you can't and won't know, if it's one off it's more likely to be just one of those things and you're fine. If you were to ring up all they'd say is to pop a pad in and monitor it (so feel free to do that so you're ahead of the game!).

Personally, I think what you do comes down to how anxious you're feeling. Given it's a very small amount you could easily crack on as normal and wait until your 12 week scan, if you've had loss before, or the anxiety is hindering you, you could pay for a private scan but at this gestation you may end up with more stress if you have a not great sonographer.

My advice would be to accept there's not a lot you can do and just monitor it for now :) x

Thank you I really appreciate your advice! I was a bit worried so went ahead and booked a scan and turned out I had haemorrhage - you are probably right in that it’s just a wait and see situation so I would have been as well just waiting to see what else happened before going in
