Conception

When's the best time to get pregnant? Use our interactive ovulation calculator to work out when you're most fertile and most likely to conceive.

If you are working on No. 2 or more, are you making sure you are as perfectly equipped as the first time?? One DS, one m/c, contemplating the whole thing again...

I just have this very strong feeling that I'm somehow doing a disservice to us/any potential baby, by not being as rested/filled with vitamins/navel gazing (literally) as I was the last time/s...doing obsessive planning/sorting...

Any thoughts? Are you doing anymore than taking folic acid/a pg vitamin when you remember?

TIA

God no!
With my son, i cut out alcohol, tea and coffee completely and took folic acid for 3 months BEFORE we concieved!
I also got my BMI within healthy parameters.

This time, i am 2 stone over weight, drinking coffee (no alcohol tho)
I am taking pro natals vits and folic acid. and have been for about 3 months now, i am TRYING with my weight, am cycling etc and watching what i eat. Well, i have been last week. lol
I am nearly 38 this time and was a young spritely 33 year old when i had my son.
dont know why but i am defo not as on the ball this time.
having a rough time though so not as focussed as i normally would be.

Other way round here !

With dd, I was working in a stressful job, drinking lots of caffiene, drinking lots of alcohol, not really doing much exercise, didn't take folic acid until I was pg. Fell pregnant second month.

Now ttc number 2 (have been doing so for 2 years, including m/c in first month of trying) - cut down on caffiene, don't drink much alcohol, have been taking vits for 2 years, exercise, weigh less than when I got pg with dd, don't work so no external stress.

Sorry, but that makes me feel so much better.
I am at the tail end of glandular fever and put back some of the veyr hard lost weight from 2.5 years ago.. and generally feeling pretty pathetic, but something somewhere has clicked and I really feel I'm ready to plunge back into the whole nightmare process (although fingers crossed it won't be this time of course)...

But cannot bring myself to wait another 3-6 months until all toxins removed and living a higher perfect life (tongue in cheek if I need to add that).......

Finally, a doctor has just told me that I'm better off "not" trying to lose more than a very few pounds as something in the process is not good for you/pg?? I don't know, didn't really pay enough attention at the time.

I suspect now we won't be the only ones...I'm nearly 38 too btw

i am doing pretty much as you say jackaroo - taking multivitamin when i remember although not quite into the actually ttc bit.

with ds i took multivit/folic acid for three months, made sure i was fit and lost a bit of weight etc etc.

this time, intend to start ttc in july, and have been taking multivit on and off but will make sure i do every day from july on (I hope).

the weight thing is not as bad as running around after 10 month old and still bfeeding definately is helping to keep weight down in normal bmi.

i do want to make the same sort of effort, but think i wont really be as focused until actually pg this time round.

conkertree · 12/06/2008 16:16

oh and hope it happens soon for you wheelybug.

WorzselMummage · 12/06/2008 17:39

when i conceived dd (accidentally) i was under weight, taking drugs, drinkign lots and depressed.

now i eat well, do none of the above except the occcasinal drink, i feel great and am rattling with pronatals yet i cant get pregnant for toffee

figures eh !

Pregnant with no.2 now. Despite the fact that I had a m/c in between pregnancies, I am much more relaxed about my lifestyle this time around. I'm not drinking alcohol or coffee, but I'm enjoying whatever food I fancy and getting on with my normal life without constantly thinking about whether what I'm doing is potentially harming my baby!
