ttc with increasingly lighter periods & short luteal phase

I've been ttc for few months now, not huge amount of time but have noticed af very light - much lighter than normal - lasting eg 2 or 3 days & only needing 1 tampon & few panty liner (sorry to be graphic). Have used persona & my luteal phase is about a week.

Anyone know why periods might be getting lighter/so light (not normally heavy but this is rediculous, barely more than spotting)?

Any advice appreciated

im experiencing this too... very light periods. although not necessarily ttc (much against DH'd wishes) I am also concerned. Agree with the plea of advice!

Light periods I'm not sure about .. but have you tried a pregnancy test just in case?

Short luteal phase I can help with though .. needs to be a minimum of 10 days from ovulation to allow a pregnancy to establish

it is easily fixed with clomid (in my case anyway .. worked first cycle)

go to GP and get it checked out .. tell them you have been charting ..

thanks twiglett, have done tests, def. not pg. Did search jessicasmummy & the 4 possible that it came up with were - pregnancy (not case for me), early menopause, too much alcohol and thyroid problems.

thyroid not impossible for me - have had problems in past, so will get that checked out.

Re alcohol it doesn't say how much would be enough to have an impact, but that also has got me worried.

If your luteal phase is 7 days, do you ovulate on day 14? If so, your cycles are only 21 days and deemed too short by the medical world.

If you go and see your gp and tell them your cycles are 21 days long, they should refer you to a gynaecologist. Good luck.

The light periods may be because your endometrial lining doesn't have time to build up to much in 7 days and hence is shed as a light period.

no beatie, I seem to be ovulating on day 18 of 25 day cycle. Does this make any difference to what you said?

im confused... dont know when i ov but cycles was as per pill... come off pill for nearly 2 weeks now and dh has agreed to ttc... we will see x

Ahhh, a 25 day cycle. I think that would be deemed normal. 22-35 days is consdiered normal.

Hmm, do you think your docotr would listen to you if you say you have been charting and have a short luteal phase? My docotr was of the school of thought that all luteal phases are 14 days long.

Luckily, I managed to lengthen it myself by taking Vitamin B6 and Agnus Castus Vitex and I got pregnant the next month. You could always try that?

I'd say lack of ovulation would cause periods to get lighter - that's what happens when you get on the Pill.

I had short luteal phase as well. Went to an accupuncturist who specialised in fertility conditions and was pregnant the next month.

but the last was pathetic - im usually heavy even when on the pill.... not sure what's going on but thats two months now where i have had pretty much nothing in the way of a period!

jessicasmummy, if you're ttc maybe it would be worth getting check up at GP & have bloods etc? I've made appt - 2 weeks time. I might try the agnus Catus, if I can get hold of it. pill not relevant. I have been using opersona & it says ov defday 17/18, in fact when the "o" comes on I think it means can ovulate anytime in next 24 hours, so might even ovulate on day 19 which is crazy short.

expatinscotland -- where do you find such a person, althought tbh don't think it's for me but worth considering. Beatie, I know my cycle length is normal, but the luteal phase is definitely not always 14 days otherwise no one would ever have heard of problems with short phases, so why wouldn't they listen to me? i know I'm not the only one.
