What's as good as First Response?

It has been 4 years since I was last TTC, and back the FRERs (First Response) were sold in Superdrug and Asda. Is there any test that's comparable in terms of sensitivity that's sold in shops? I know I can get FRERs on Amazon but I wanted something today!

I've just had the faintest shadow of a line on a Premom strip test and I need to be able to check it against something I trust!

I use boots own brand early detection

JennyTig · 16/11/2025 11:38

Same for me because my first is nearly 6 and those were the ones I used. None in the chemist or supermarket but I just ordered a FRER for same day delivery on Amazon!

Edit: oops just saw you were looking for in-store. I think the clearblue digital 6 days early (just show pregnant or not, not date) are quite highly recommended.

I used to use frer and when they became unavailable I switched to boots 5/6 day early tests. Think they are about £8 for 2 I would say they are better than frer never had an indent. It’s always been a yes or no on them

EmPeEf · 17/11/2025 01:44

The clear blue that give the single line. A positive line is pale blue and wide.

I had horrendous false positives on the Boots tests and wouldn’t trust them to give me a definitive answer.

BunnyWilliams · 17/11/2025 09:31

Thanks all. I got some of the Boots early detection ones (not the standard tests) and got a faint pink link last night and again this morning (darker and appeared sooner this AM). Although @EmPeEf your experience has now made me nervous! I did take another premom this morning and got another faint shadow of a line which I think is darker than yesterday. I'm around 11dpo, so still early.

Just updating this in case anyone comes across it later. I've had darkening lines on Boots and premom (although still faint) and a faint but obvious line on a Clearblue today. Stepping away from the expensive tests for now and will take my last few cheapies over the next few days. I'm cautious that this may be a chemical because of the faint lines (and have had similar experiences in the past that didn't end well) but trying to maintain the mantra of 'pregnant until proven otherwise'.

How many dpo are you?
I think they are good lines tbf. My last pregnancy with my son I lost at 22weeks I didn’t get a positive till 14dpo! And it was faint! I defo see it!! Xx good luck

@strawberry780I'm not sure when I ovulated because I wasn't tracking (apart from cm) so I'm not actually sure how many dpo I am. I think I may be 12dpo today (although I marked tests as 14). AF is due today. Lines are getting darker.
I think I may have been around 9dpo on those first tests.

Line today on Boots tests, one week after my super faint BFP. There's no denying this one!
