Hi guys, so I've been testing for 9 days now and still getting flashing smileys rather than a static one. Started to keep and compare my test sticks a few days ago and wondered what people think ? Seem to be getting darker but after already 9 days should I expect not to ovulate this cycle ?

What day of your cycle did you start testing on?

Also I'd recommend getting a stack of 'internet cheapies' (I bought a brand called onestep) that are just strips of card, and test more frequently.

Some people get their peak at different times to others. I used to test my second morning urine and then one in the evening from what I recall.

I started testing on CD 16

How long are your cycles normally?

That seems a bit late to start testing. I always ovulate day 15/16. How long are your cycles usually?

When I was working out my cycle I started testing on day 12

GemmaAnnabelle · 20/10/2025 12:47

I don't know as this is the first time I have ever tracked it

@GemmaAnnabelle ah then you may well be starting too late in your cycle. The first time you start tracking you should start at day 8 or 9. On a textbook 28 day cycle you would ovulate on day 14 (obviously in real life this can vary!). If your cycles are longer, then usually you'd expect to ovulate later. Generally speaking the luteal phase (the time after you ovulate until your next period) is around 12-15 days and that stays pretty consistent.

Do you have a fairly regular cycle? E.g. I am always 28-29 days, I ovulate on day 15/16.

In theory you should ovulate near the middle of your cycle give or take a few days. It's therefore important to start testing around day 8/9.
