i am so frustrated - 9 months still no period

honestly, this is just a rant, so please feel free to ignore. Im just getting frustrated. I came off the pill in sept 07 and have only had 1 period since. |Doctor has done blood tests and has said all is fine. Has told me to wait another 3 months then i can get refered for clomid.
i know in the great scheme of things this is not that bad, and that there are people far worse off than me and that i should just be greatful that i already have one dd. But i just want another baby so much and if i was activley able to ttc then it wouldnt be so bad, but since im not even having periods im just stuck.

Sorry for that, just needed a momment to feel sorry for myself.

How can GP say all is fine with blood tests and then say you've got to wait for Clomid??? Surely if you need Clomid you're not ov'ing in which case all is not 'fine' with your blood tests
Can you see another GP to get a second opinion - this one sounds like a waste of space!

Would agree with nomoremagnolia - I think that something in the blood test result was missed because clomid is often given to women with ovulation problems.

Can you recall what hormones were tested?. They should have compared both your LH and FSH levels; if this was not done the test is meaningless.

Also if you've only had one period since Sept 07 the underlying cause of this is often hormonal imbalances.

I would see another GP asap (certainly not the current one) and insist that you are referred to a gynae. Apart from anything else monitoring should take place if clomid is prescived (not everyone is suitable to take clomid either).

so you really think i should see another doctor... funnily enough it wasnt my usual doc i saw, but a female doc and the nurse thought she may be more sympathetic. I did say to her, that if you take the wanting to ttc out of it, ive still got a problem, that im not having any periods...and something must be causing that. I think they just tested for thryoid before. She said if she refered me she would need to take 21 day bloods, which i said would be a bit silly as it would be day 200 bloods or something silly.
I dont want to be a pain at the doctors.. but maybe i will go back in a month or something.. that will have been 10 months.

I think you should seek another opinion most certainly. You will need to be persistant in order to get answers; you will go around in circles otherwise.

They should be looking carefully at your LH and FSH levels and comparing them. LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) kickstart the ovulation processs; if these hormone levels are awry then ovulation will be affected. Another possible cause of irregular periods is a condition called polycystic ovaries (this is where the ovaries are covered with cystic follciles). This can be treated by a gynae but you need to be referred to a subfertility unit as a matter of course.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost. Common cause of irregular periods are thyroid imbalance or polcystic ovaries or its related syndrome PCOS. Both of these should be checked for.

With regards to blood tests these can also be done according to calendar days (e.g the 3rd and 21st of the month) if periods are irregular or non existant. They could have told you this!!.

HTH, go back to your GP and insist you are referred. Don't wait another month, act sooner.

shop I really feel for you honestly I do.
Its so frustrating isn,t it when time is going by and things with your doctor etc are moving so slow.
I have come to the realisation that you can waste far too much time listening to gp's who don,t really know enough in this field.

Your right if you wasn,t ttc it probably would not be so much a issue.
You need to push for a referral to a gyno.

I myself am going out of my head ttc 9 months and no luck.
I have not got a clue what is going on with my cycle, periods are irregular currently on cd 38 and no sign.
However I also have thyroid problems which could be at the heart.
Recently had a day 21 progesterone test and my gp said it was low.
That is freaking me out something terrible and i have to wait until the 27th of June to speak to my gyno about it.
I have tried to get in sooner but can,t.
I am also meant to have a day 2 test but so far no period so I have not had the test yet.
I am 37 and I am worried that I might be entering menopause as my mom and sisters did around my age.
I feel like crying.
Anyway enough about me push for that referral and don,t waste time at your gp's practice.

oh lost, that sounds terrible. I dont know what i can say. Hoping that appt comes round quick... do they have a waiting list for cancelled appts at all?
Attila, i asked about pcos, as i believe i have this.. something that has been following me around since i first got my period aged 16. But she said my hormones were fine.
I think i will wait a week or two and then go and see my own doctor.. and most likely cry at him. Im also overweight.. altough have lost a stone and a bitin the last six weeks, so if i wait 2 or 3 more weeks i can make that almost 2 stone... so that will show its not my weight causing the problem.. in any case i weighed more than i do now when i had my dd. Also can i actually askthe doctor to test those levels you mentioned? and what are the chances of them refering me when it hasnt been a whole year?

I phoned this morning got through to the appoinments team I can,t speak directly with the fertility clinic.
All that they said was the only way to bring my appointment closer was to visit my doctor get another referral and a reason for bringing it forward.
I know I am probably just very anxious and don,t really have a good enough reason, except that ttc is making me a loony.
In all honesty though, if I was younger with no thyroid problems, no history of early menopause in the family, and my periods were regular, I probably wouldn't feel so much in a panic.
