Trying for 7 months, still TTC

I’m well aware of the statistics of TTC, but after seven months of trying with no success, I’m starting to become really disheartened and feeling like giving up.
For context, I’m 25 and my partner is 27. We’re both very fit and healthy (I assume!), neither of us have ever smoked or done any drugs and we only drink on special occasion, aside from a glass of wine every now and then. I’ve been taking folic acid since March, and more recently CoQ10 and a few other B vitamins. My partner is also taking a male conception vitamin. We’ve been doing the sperm meets egg method.

basically I can’t work out what is “going wrong” and feel so rubbish about it all - any advice?

Have you tried using a Fertilily?

Nothing is necessarily going wrong, even if healthy and fertile, it's a odds game. Do you know your fertile window to be sure you're hitting it?

I’ve done my best to work out my window. I have a perfect 28 day cycle and bleed bang on every month - so I have been assuming that I ovulate on day 14. This seems to be about right according to my CM too

This is absolutely normal! Please don’t worry or stress, easier said than done. If it takes longer than a year then you could look into some testing.

If you haven't bought ovulation sticks I would try those. We used the clear blue fertility monitor and got pregnant first month we used it (3rd month overall). I was 36 and we were using sperm meets egg. I also used the cheap sticks and they picked it up at the same time.

My peak ovulation had moved from around day 15 to day 12 between first and second baby so I think I missed it the first 2 months when TTC #2

Are you dtd regularly around your fertile window not just once? Sometime it just takes a while, DS1 took 10 months to conceive but I’m pregnant again from first try!

Yeah, we start on the last day of my period and then dtd every other day until 2DPO

This is helpful, thank you! Are they quite simple to use? I’ve found it a bit overwhelming when researching

I use the Easy@home strips from Amazon and the Premom app. When the test line is darker than the control line then you normally ovulate 12-48 hours after. I had a stronger line last night, which was day 16 of my 29 day cycle. So probably ovulating today or tomorrow (day 17 or 18). It could be that you ovulate later than you think.

Simplygreen · 05/10/2025 21:22

I also use easy@home strips they are simple to work out, start testing a few days after my period ends. When the control line is as dark as the test line you’re likely to ovulated within 12-24 hours. If you recognise ewcm that helps as well! If you are stopping dtd at 2dpo there’s a chance you just miss ovulation. My cycle is 28 days but I have a short luteal phase and ovulate around day 18 or later.

WF1990 · 06/10/2025 09:53

Hi lovely, I would really not rely upon apps. Get ovulation sticks. You can have a 28 day cycle but a 10 day luteal phase meaning you would ovulate on day 18 and not 14. EWCM can come days before ovulation.
also remember that it takes on average 12 months to conceive. Sending you love 🫶🏽

boola1804 · 06/10/2025 14:01

Thanks everyone, I will definitely be giving the ovulation strips a go! Thank you all for your kind words x

As others have said, it's totally normal to be trying for up to or even over a year, but that doesn't stop it being frustrating or difficult to manage when it doesn't happen quickly! I'd also be another advocate for ovulation strips. If you get to 12 months it's worth then getting some tests done to see if there's anything preventing it - but also worth being away often these tests don't show anything. Good luck!x

Hi everyone, just to update you - I got my BFP on Monday. Still mega early (4w +2) but I’m excited. My fears of being infertile have now changed to fears of miscarriage, so I can’t win lol. Thank you for all of your advice!

My husband and I were TTC for a couple of months before we realised that the the lube we were using actually slows down/kills sperm. Any water-based lube is not ideal for conceiving. So I bought a different one (think it was called Conceive Plus or something like that) and I got pregnant that month. Probably a lucky coincidence but worth a try!

And have sex every few days throughout your cycle if you’re not already! Ovulation varies massively so that way you’re covered.

It’s so hard waiting and wondering while TTC but it will happen, and it’s so worth it when it does. Good luck OP!
