Can't wait to TTC, with only a vague 'OK' from DH, and a smear test in 2 months

DH and I had a conversation about not waiting too long to have another baby (we are both 37), and now I can't think of anything else. Really want to TTC, right now.

Meanwhile, I have a smear test scheduled for July. I had a loop excision operation following a bad smear test result (CIN III) in 2003 and have had smears every year since then.

Does anyone know if you can have a smear test in early stages of pregnancy? If there is a problem do you have to have an abortion?

I can't say why I am in a hurry all of a sudden, but I just can't wait. Not sure if DH would agree if I said "let's TTC" anyway...

Anyone?

I guess I'm waiting for someone to say "What's wrong with you? Have your smear test and then TTC".

you could make a new smear test appointment for next week?

MrsTittleMouse · 03/06/2008 20:50

Could you move your smear test forward? I'm guessing that they are just done by the practice nurse, right? So it shouldn't be too difficult.
I feel your pain as I find it really really hard to wait too. Don't forget your folic acid, by the way.

well, I don't know about abortion but if you have an abnormality again, it's not ideal to have the loop treatment or to wait until after the pregnancy. I don't know what would happen.

It makes sense to be clear with that first. I would make an appointment sooner.

Just remembered - I had a smear test in early pregnancy with DD. It was fine, the smear test itself wasn't at all dangerous to DD. The results were good though, so I never asked what would have happened if everything hadn't looked so rosy.

They wont treat you or even give you a smear if you are pregnant. It alters the results.

I had a loop excision about 7 weeks ago and had to do a pregnancy test on the day before they would do it. It was negative but 3 weeks later i got a positive so think i may have been preg at the time!

My gynecologist is too full to give an earlier appointment. Summer mentality in full swing down here, and doctors are hard to come by. They don't accept new patients during summer months and disappear for the month of August.

(I had only 1 ante-natal class because DD was due mid-September and midwives were on holiday )

Mental note: Go to pharmacy tomorrow. Get folic acid & ovulation test.

cancer research says you would be treated after the pregnancy as things won't change much in six months here

It makes sense to wait so there is no worry. Easy to say when you are not desperately ttc I know.

MrsTittleMouse · 03/06/2008 21:16

Oh dear, it really does sound as though you should wait. In theory you should take folic acid for 3 months before TTC anyway, so July is pretty close (we only mananged 2 months before going for DD - not that it mattered - massive amounts of fertility treatment were required so I must have had folic acid coming out of my ears ).

Can you think of it as just two more ovulations? Do some prep work for pregnancy? Like diet that sort of thing? I did a fertility diet, but you might be of the kind that winks at your DH and gets pregnant and not so interested in that kind of thing.

aPlum - Thanks for that link. It made me feel better. (What am I saying? Not pregnant. Not even TTC yet )

Well, we did conceive DD on 11th day of a 30+ day cycle, so yes, I'm new to the concept of TTC

I was smoking a pack of cigarettes a day and drinking loads of wine every day in the weeks leading up to the said conception (on holiday). Now I'm several years older but don't smoke and drink only the odd glass of wine now and again, so hopefully will be just as fertile.
