Hi,

Me and my partner (both 30) have been TTC for around 9/10 months now and went through fertility testing due to me falling ill last year and it could have impacted my fertility.

Everything for me was normal but my partners sperm test came back ‘sub optimal’ everything came back normal for count, mobility etc but morphology was 1%. He had been stressed around the time the test was done due to starting a new job and used to work night shifts before this so not sure if this could have had some effect.

i have been put on letrozole due to his sperm results for the next 6 months but I wondered if anyone had any similar experiences and could share some tips to improving it ?

He used to vape but has recently quit. He has also quit drinking. We have ordered some supplements for him to take which include Wellman conception max, coQ10, zinc and omega 3.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

x

Ask your GP if they'll scan him for a varicocele, my and my partner went though a round of IVF before it was picked up (all factors were low on my partner not just morphology) Hopefully it will improve from supplements but defo worth checking everything 😊

It sounds like you're on the right track with those supplements.

We'd been trying for nearly a year and a half when my husband got his 1% morphology test result, he'd been taking the wellman conception vitamins and coq-10 already then I got pregnant the following month. That month I also took mucus cough medicine and I do wonder if that helped get the good sperm to the right place!

I think it's more the count and mobility that you want to have good numbers on, you can definitely still get pregnant with low morphology and taking the supplements and living a healthy lifestyle genuinely should help

@waitingforourmiracle thanks so much for your reply. I will definitely ask about varicocele, thank you for telling me I had no idea about this! Did your partner have any symptoms at all?. Fingers crossed ! I have saw a lot online about it really helping with morphology, there’s just so many comments online saying loads of different supplements it’s hard to know which work without wasting money

@Tater05 thanks so much for replying to me. So glad to hear a positive story. How long was your husband taking the supplements before you fell pregnant ? I will definitely try the cough mucus, I did hear it’s good for cervical mucus. Which one did you take and how many days / how many times a day did you take it if you don’t mind me asking?

My doctor did say this he said everything else is really good numbers so its likely it’ll just take longer rather than not being able to get pregnant at all

@Pippalove82 I think he was taking them about 6 months before, we both started the coq-10 around then and it can take that long to have an effect. But he had the 1% morphology result 5 months after taking it so unless that one extra month made all the difference I'm not sure 🤔

I took Benylin mucus cough max during the fertile window and a couple of days after, a table spoon each morning and evening. I got noticeable CM each month anyway but definitely more when I took it! And it apparently helps the sperm live longer once inside as well as helping them move.

That's really reassuring from your doctor. I think in most cases, especially with your age and test results, it is a case of it taking a bit longer rather than never at all. It's just so hard while you're waiting for it to happen and not knowing! Wish you all the best for it to happen soon x

@Tater05 Thank you, I did read online it does take about 6 months for the co-q10 to make a difference just wished I’d started it sooner, I’ve been taking it a month already and had to wait ages for my partner to get his sperm test so just pushed everything back.

thank you for the recommendation, will definitely pick some up

I am starting letrozole in a few days, my 21 day progesterone test showed I’m ovulating well so I was a bit confused but my doctor says it can help make ovulation more regulated and stronger which will help the sperm so we’ll see how that goes.

thank you so much! Yeah it is so hard isn’t it, it’s the building of hope and then being disappointed every month and also wondering if there’s something wrong that I’m missing

Not sure how long ago you got your positive but congratulations either way! x

None at all! It was a complete shock to us both! My partner took Impryl after his procedure for 3 months and all factors did improve, he also stopped drinking. Impryl is quite expensive but I would recommend it. It's what both of our IVF clinics suggested x
