Hello!

I am due to start my first ivf cycle this month - my period is due either today or tomorrow. I have what feels like the most annoying period pains for the last week probably as I am anticipating starting so the treatment can start! Can someone please tell me what to expect in terms of ivf injection effects? Is it similar to a period with the pains and aches? Or just more of a emotional reaction?

thanks xxx

Hi there, I think it really is a personal thing . It affects every woman differently.
I've been through ivf twice now and both times I've never experienced any side effects. The first time I had some mild tenderness and bloating in my stomach as i had more follicles but I pretty much got on with life as usual.
For me, it was definitely the emotional side. More anxiety about the process , not knowing if it's going to work ect

Thank you for the reply! I have just started spotting so looks like I’ll be starting tomorrow! Just as you say anxious and don’t know what to expect! X

Hello, I am currently going through my first cycle as well, though I'm further in than you are. I think it definitely is each to their own and depends on how your body reacts to stimulants. For me personally, the emotional side was fine, it's more like the physical symptoms I got when I started the antagonist on day 6 (fyremadel) that has been uncomfortable. Extreme bloating with abdominal pain and nausea. Rest is really important, as is diet. Stick to Mediterranean (high protein, veg, and fruits) and drink A LOT of water to help with absorption. I took my trigger shot last night and I'm due for egg collection tomorrow. I'm glad it's almost over; it can be quite an exhausting process. BUT like I said, everyone is different - this is just my experience. Best of luck with your IVF cycle, sending all best wishes to you 🙏🏼❤️

Hi @firststeps124. How are you getting on with the injections? I personally found symptoms were very mild the first week then progressed. Mostly for me (I did a frozen cycle in June) it was a feeling of heaviness, with the majority of my symptoms coming after my egg collection, which was in line with my usual cycle as I tend to experience the most hormonal and physical symptoms a day or two after I ovulate in a standard menstrual cycle.
