Is there an issue with my cycle TTC

Hi all 👋

I am 33 yo and trying to conceive our first baby, husband is 36. It has been 5 months and I have just come on my period again so I guess I am out now again for this month. I have been looking through my cycle more as I have been tracking on flo. I started noticing some signs that are bothering me.

Period always arrives around 11dpo
very regular
this month I have been spotting every day since 4dpo, had some clotty dark tissue yesterday and the day before (currently 10dpo today).
the spotting before the 11dpo period does happen sometimes but never for this long and at 4dpo. This month it’s all been dark brown spotting, I will start logging my actual period when I see red blood, which should be around tomorrow. Just had a 24 hour vomiting bug, so this might be throwing things off as I haven’t got any period pain today like I usually get.

Anyway back to the monthly cycles, if I am coming on my period at 11dpo and I am having spotting sometimes before hand, does anyone think this might be related to a hormone imbalance? Maybe low progesterone? Is there anything I could start taking now to see if I can lengthen this phase? I was taking pre conception vitamins but only lasted 4 days before I put them in the bin as they made me so nauseous. I read it could be the iron in them. Also got the bright yellow wee but that didn’t bother me once I read online it is common with b vitamins. Thanks for any advice!

It wouldnt hurt to get some tests done. Check hormone levels, some spotting after ovulation or around ovulation could be ovulation spotting which sometimes can be normal but in my opinion any spotting or bleeding outside of your period days should be brought up with your care provider. I sometimes get spotting around ovulation but this is not my normal and usually for me means low progesterone. In reality for most normal couples, it can take up to 12 months to conceive but honestly if it hasnt happened within 6 months then something needs to be addressed and I wouldnt wait.

I will give it a while to see, as I know we are in our 30’s and apparently 1 year can be normal, and it’s only been 5 months. Then I will speak to the GP and see what she thinks regarding any testing. My husband said some of his friends took ages to conceive too, so maybe it is more common than I thought. I was taught growing up it was so easy to get pregnant (that was probably to scare us off having sex haha)! I have been tracking temperature with bbt, taking ovulation tests, and I get the worst ovulation pain ever, and the ovulation mucous. So trying to do everything possible but just wondering if there was any other supplements I could take to try and lengthen the luteal phase…

My first time TTC I used soy isoflavones (alternative to prescribed Clomid) to bring ovulation forwards bit, which in turn lengthened my luteal phase.

I normally spot up to a week before period had a short luteal phase of 10-12dpo and conceived on month 5 abd had no spotting that month. Was checked hormone wise and all was normal

I had similar when TTC my second although spotting was only for a couple of days before period not for ages. It’s indication of a short luteal phase which can also mean low progesterone. I would chat with your doctor and ask for some tests. I did get pregnant quite quickly but ended up having to have progesterone pessaries for 12 weeks during pregnancy as I was experiencing bleeding.

I thought we had to wait 12 months of trying to contact the GP?

Hi! I have had this problem all year and I decided to getting my ferritin checked as I though perhaps my iron might be affect my constant spotting. My iron was 17 and got prescribed iron pills. Now this is the first cycle without spotting and period due in 3 days!
not saying g that’s the reason for you but maybe get your ferritin tested as worked for me ☺️ xx
