My friend has just had a baby last week, I was her birthing partner which was incredible.
This has triggered extremely intense baby fever for myself and my partner!
We have been ttc for a while now, as in having unprotected sex, but we haven’t ever used any other supplementary methods.
I am going to buy ovulation test strips asap, but other than that, what is our best course of action?

(I know it is never guaranteed, the title is a bit of a joke! I’d just really like some tips)

Have sex every 2 days for 2 weeks as soon as you have finished your period!

Bayou2000 · 11/08/2025 05:24

Guaifenesin cough medicine to thin cervical mucus.

Yellowbirdcage · 11/08/2025 05:33

Lots and lots of sex. Be under 30. IVF.

CarlaLemarchant · 11/08/2025 05:37

As the pp says, regular sex in the run up to and over ovulation.

If you are overweight, lose some. Reduce alcohol intake. Live a generally healthy lifestyle but don’t become obsessed by it.

If it still doesn’t happen after months, maybe get some tests and go from there.

Normal healthy diet, regular activity/exercise, make sure weight is in normal BMI range, and sex every couple of days throughout your cycle. Take folic acid and vitamin d. Nothing else has any been shown to have any positive effect so save your money!

I conceived naturally in my 40s by tracking my cycle then DTD on consecutive days (or rather nights!) when the app said I was ovulating

Hypnotherapy for relaxation, loose some weight if you are obese, be happy and free ☺️ from a 2.5year struggle this is what changed for me

Babyfeverugh · 11/08/2025 08:49

I’m about 5’5 and about 60kg so I think maybe a bit above average? So I’ll get onto trying to lose some weight asap.
Maybe stress could be why? 😬

I think there are two steps. Becoming pregnant. Sustaining a pregnancy.

I have no problem falling pregnant. My ex and I fell first time only having sex once that cycle. Miscarriage.
Fell on second or third cycle for #1.
Fell on third or fourth cycle for #2.

Now with my new partner at age 40, I fell first cycle trying. Ended in chemical. Didn’t OV second month. Fell pregnant 3rd cycle and ended in another chemical.

So for me, now I’m 40 I think it’s pretty clear I still function really well with regards to getting pregnant. It’s just my eggs are older and I’m falling pregnant with poor quality eggs.

So if people find their struggling I think there are lots of things you can do with regards to falling pregnant, but I’m not sure sustaining a pregnancy is within our control.
I just wanted to share my experiences.

We’re definitely still in our ‘most fertile’ years, we are relatively quite young. I’m not sure if I’ve had chemicals or if I’ve just had a couple of weird periods, I haven’t been testing as I’ve been having to tell myself, if I’m pregnant, then I won’t have my period by next month, so I’ll test then. I used to get a little obsessive with testing if I was so much as a day late and that never returned any positives at the time Sad so I’m not sure if I would know if it was chemicals or my period being a bit funny.
My last period was 5 days late, and just as I was starting to let myself think something, on came the most intense period I have ever had. I was at work at the time, and was just curled up on a chair in pain. It felt very odd, and extremely painful.
If it wasn’t a chemical, then I don’t know what else it could be, which in fact scares me even more!

Take folic acid. Loose underwear for your fella. And lots and lots of sex. Also feet up against the wall after......

Aitchemarsey · 11/08/2025 19:39

The book "It starts with the egg" is interesting - tell you all about egg health and diet, supplements and things to avoid to help you conceive. Can't guarantee anything, but I read it after losing a first baby and before I got pregnant with my son.

Ontheflipside · 11/08/2025 19:45

These are a bit kooky but I'm sure it's what helped conceived DD2!! A cup of bone broth daily, pure pomegranate juice daily, handful of almonds daily. Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake and take folic acid daily. Plus lots of sex during your fertile window and regularly throughout the month. Oh and make sure you keep your feet warm!! No high intensity workouts, just walking/running/pilates/yoga

dontcomeatme · 11/08/2025 19:48

Don't use the ovulation strips. If you start feeling more discharge than normal, check its texture and stickiness, when it's creamy and stretchy then you're fertile window is open x

We didn’t start ttc until i was 37 (and then 40). Both times we did nothing other than have a lot of sex (at least every other day). We were both very fit at the time - cycled and ran miles - barely drank alcohol and neither of us smoked (never have).
