TTC #2 taking longer than #1! (and long cycles)

Hi everyone - just looking for people in the same boat really.

Had my DS in late 2023. With him, I had a chemical pregnancy cycle 2 and then conceived him cycle 3 of trying (age 32). I've now just had a negative on cycle 3 of trying to conceive #2!

I do know logically it's not always going to take less time to conceive a second (especially as you're older) but I guess naively due to conceiving DS relatively easily and lots of friends falling pregnant first try with their seconds, I did expect to have been pregnant by now!

I felt very lucky first time round as I have always had long cycles (although I've had private scans and blood tests for PCOS apparently I don't have this - so reason for the long cycles is a bit of a mystery). I've been taking lots of supplements though and my cycles seem to have settled at 30-35 days (whereas longest before conceiving DS was up to 51 days).

I am 35 in a few months (so aware age is not on my side). My DH is a bit younger, he's 31. Wondering if it's too early to get fertility checks? We are lucky that we could afford privately them even if it's just for peace of mind at this stage?

I am also really beating myself up that we didn't start trying a bit earlier - seems like really frivolous reasons to delay trying in hindsight i.e. not having a Christmas baby and not potentially being pregnant for a holiday.

Just looking for others in the same boat or any positive stories!

How are you doing @Apricotmuffino I'm CD21 now and zero signs of ovulation yet which is so frustrating as last month I ovulated CD22

Thanks for the recommendation to join this thread

I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS due to irregular periods and other symptoms.

I have just started ttc again after having my first child 2.5 years ago. I am definitely feeling anxious this time around due to ovulation changes etc! I’m currently undergoing tests

Lgn90 · 26/08/2025 21:14

Hi @Lemoncheesecake007 and welcome. You're not the only one who's anxious! I've always had irregular and long cycles, but sounds like this might be new-ish for you?
What kind of tests are you undergoing if you don't mind me asking?

Hi everyone! I’m also feeling anxious and impatient at how long ttc number 2 is taking! Although it did take a long time to have DS I was falling pregnant quickly but had a lot of misscarriages, this time around I foolishly thought it would be easier as I had done it once! I’ve been wanting to be pregnant since about 6 months pp but it took a year for my cycles to return and now on cycle 6, im 2 days late but testing negative so assuming I’m out this month, we’ve said we will go down the ivf route if we get to the year mark of trying with no luck

Lgn90 · 27/08/2025 15:18

HI @MrsF111 and welcome. It's so frustrating isn't it when you assume it will happen quickly second time round (as it has for loads of my friends!) We've also got a "deadline" of Christmas too on the trying naturally route before going down the testing route

Feeling fed up, cd21 negative opk and no usual signs of ovulation!!

So weird, im still breastfeeding my little one once or twice a day so I am wondering whether its that causing my cycles to be up and down!

Im losing faith im even going to ovulate this month!!

How are you getting on, any signs over the last 2 days?

Good luck!!

Lgn90 · 28/08/2025 09:31

@Apricotmuffino Some really faint signs of EWCM but LH strip tests are still super low.

Ah that's amazing you're still breastfeeding - although I think maybe it can interfere with ovulation a bit?!

hi. I’m trying to conceive #3 while breastfeeding. Baby #2 was made at 7month pp without ever having a period just caught first EWCM. Now I’m almost a year pp having had only one 36 day cycle. BFeeding loads at night , occasionally in the day. I feel like I’m obsessed with the idea of another baby. I had hoped to return to work pregnant. I’ve started procieve . Got ovulation sticks coz I really cba having sex alternative nights all month😆. BBT seems unreliable as I’m often up 4/5am with one of the 2 children then up at 6/6:30am

MrsF111 · 04/09/2025 11:58

How is everyone getting on? My
oerios finally arrived a week late, on CD4 today. After 6 months of very light periods this one was heavier so hoping the conceive plus vitamins have helped and I might have more implanting luck going forwards? Who knows!? Going to use OPKs for the first time this month too so feeling hopeful. Would love to be past the first trimester for Christmas but fast running out of time 😬

Lgn90 · 04/09/2025 13:29

Hi @MrsF111 I had confirmed ovulation on Monday (with BBT and had used tests) so now 3DPO. So just need to try and stay busy for the next week and a bit. I do find the TWW much easier than pre-ovulation though, especially as the day I ovulate each cycle is different.
Same about not being in first trimester for Christmas, that would be lovely!

Fingers crossed for you @Lgn90! are you an early tester or do you manage to wait until your period would be due? I’m terrible I start testing from 8dpo 😂😂

Lgn90 · 05/09/2025 14:20

@MrsF111 i TRY and wait until 12dpo to keep the hope alive for longer but I’m not sure I’m going to be able to manage that this month!

5 years here TTC #2! Have PCOS and just accepted by fertility for testing in a few weeks. Still get my hopes up every month

Lgn90 · 08/09/2025 10:09

Gosh @Disneybride you are a hero! Do you get long cycles with the PCOS? Hope all the testing goes well

Thank you, I don’t feel like one!

So I didn’t he a period at all for years. It took 3 cycles of Medroxyprogesterone to get a bleed and a a couple more to get them regularish - they were terrible at the start. They the switched me to Letrozole and I’ve bled regular every month since. Had blood tests and progesterone level is above 30, so it appears I’m ovulating. At this point I’m wondering if I’m ovulating but my tubes are blocked?

We will get our results on the day, so hopefully not long now. Expecting them to say only option is to pay for IVF

Lgn90 · 12/09/2025 08:26

Managed to hold off testing until 11dpo this morning (with a 5 day early clear blue) and it's a BFN, so onto next month :( how's everyone else doing?

MrsF111 · 15/09/2025 09:32

sorry to hear the @Lgn90, although you aren’t fully our until AF arrives 🤞

I am CD15 which would normally be past ovulation day but last months my cycle was 6 days longer, my ovulation testing strip was a bit darker this morning compared to the last 4 days so hoping I’ll get a positive opk in the next day or so, have been DTD everyday since CD10 just incase (bloody exhausting with a toddler to look after all day 😂)

opk picture attached, today’s is furthest left

Lgn90 · 15/09/2025 09:41

Thanks @MrsF111 AF arrived on Friday night (which I think is quite a short luteal phase, I was feeling super stressed last month, with work as well as TTC) so really need to try and get that under control this month.
Definitely progression on your OPKs - DTD every day, wow! We definitely haven't managed that

Everything crossed for this new cycle for you!

it’s literally the least romantic thing ever and then I’ll need a serious break during the tww 😂😂

MrsF111 · 23/09/2025 14:47

7dpo today and I am SO bloated, I’ve never noticed it before either on my first pregnant or on each cycle this time around. Not back to pre pregnancy weight but I’m getting there and was starting to feel a bit more like myself shape wise however today my stomach looks huge!! Hoping that’s a good sign 🤞

how is everyone else getting on?

MrsF111 · 26/09/2025 16:56

10dpo today and just did a test which came up with a very very faint line, thought I saw a shadow of one on this mornings test but it was really barely there. I think there is colour to the line in real life. Praying this is the start of something and not an evap or another chemical 🤞

Ahhhh tentative congratulations @MrsF111 how is the line looking now? (Sorry was abroad this weekend so hadn't logged on!)

Pretty good I think, 13dpo today 🤞 I didn’t get this good a line with my chemicals, going to brave a digital tomorrow
