Stimulated IUI

Hi All

Please help.

Has anyone had stimulated IUI?
We are starting treatment in the next few months and would love as much information as you have ? I have googled but it's a minefield and im more confused.

We are doing this privately as we have been trying to conceive our 2nd child for 2 years and dont quality for any NHS treatment. We are currently waiting for our GP to sign the forms to say we can go ahead.

We had fertility test everything is fine bar husband sperm morphology is 3% which is slightly low. But we have been pregnant 3 times (1 healthy baby. Thankfully) but we haven't managed to even fall pregnant in the last 2 years of trying.

Anyway im nervous about taking medication to make me ovulate. And just wondering how much this will cost as the clinic said they will give us a prescription that I will need to get myself.

Anyway any advice or stories about your experience would be much appreciated

Thank you

Hi OP. I had 2 rounds (due to being in a same sex marriage, so no fertility issues). Sadly both were unsuccessful and I moved to IVF which worked first time. I believe the meds cost around £1,200 per round of IUI. My wife carried our DD1 who was conceived via her first round of IUI though so it is possible to have it work first go!

Meds wise, they made me bloated and hormonal but I am a bit of an emotional rollercoaster with my hormones anyway. My wife is much more level and didn’t have such hormonal disruption. It’s obviously only anecdotal but it seemed relevant to both our symptoms we usually have with our cycle.

It can be tough but obviously completely worth it. A bit more of a juggle for second baby too but manageable. My main advice would be know what your threshold is in terms of how many goes you are willing to have.

Good luck

Thank you for your message it is really helpful.

This is my worry I am a emotional rollercoaster too hahah.

How many appointments did you have per IUI cycle . Just wondering how much time I need off work as well....as I haven't told them yet and dont want too if I can avoid it

Thank you again xxx

No problem!

And I can really relate. The good thing is at least you’re self aware. I had to be really controlled but also asked my wife to consider my emotional state if I was snappy during the rounds, it’s not unmanageable but also not ideal if you know what I mean.

I think I had a treatment planning appt via teams, then went in for day 1 scan and then had maybe 2 other scans before the actual IUI. That’s not obviously including the baseline appts which you have probably had.

Hi @CalmHam, did you go ahead with treatment? We are in a very similar boat (two years into trying for a second child, unexplained aside from slightly low sperm morphology) and have just started our first cycle of stimulated IUI.

CalmHam · 30/08/2025 22:36

Hi @blackberryhill we are starting this month. I got my period today so I am taking letrozole tablets from tomorrow. Then just waiting for the clinic to give us a date for a scan . Where are you up to in the process? Good luck 🥰
