5 weeks - ADVICE PLEASE HELP

hopelesslydevotedtoyou0 · 18/06/2025 15:57

Has anyone had any success with faint positives at around five weeks or should I just expect to miscarry?

Period due last weekend - cramping all week feeling like it was going to come but nothing.

Did a test and it is faint positive. Would expect a pregnancy test to be glaring positive at this stage.

Do I just give up and accept I will have my ‘late period’ soon?

Thanks

Did you track ovulation? You could have ovulated a bit later meaning you aren’t as far gone as you think?

You could have ovulated late on in you cycle and your not actually 5 weeks…just keep testing and see if it gets darker. Have you tried another type of test?

hopelesslydevotedtoyou0 · 18/06/2025 20:25

Another strip test

Those do look very faint for 1 week late OP sorry, unless you ovulated late. If you aren’t sure on your ovulation dates though then it may be fine.

Sheep91 · 18/06/2025 20:39

Agreed if you’re not tracking ovulation you may not be 5 weeks. I don’t ovulate until CD18 or 19. I would test each morning for the next few days.

The last time I could have conceived would have been 26th May - as I only had sex twice

Test getting fainter may signify a chemical pregnancy. That’s what I had last month but my faint tests and bleeding happened quite quickly. I’m so sorry whatever’s happening is so long and drawn out for you.
As you’ve had a positive test, your GP may do 48 hour bloods for you just to check levels are either going up or down safely and there’s no risk of ectopic.

sophiealice55 · 19/06/2025 01:10

I am also 5 weeks, with very similar dates to yours and it looks light in comparison to mine - hopefully you ovulated later than you think (as sperm can live for a little while after sex) - keep doing tests for the next week and see if they progress at all. Fingers crossed for you!

There is no one answer, you could start bleeding tomorrow, next week, 2 weeks time, no way of knowing. If the tests aren’t getting any darker with time I’d assume a chemical pregnancy and wait for bleeding.

hopelesslydevotedtoyou0 · 19/06/2025 07:42

thank you so much for all the replies - still a very faint positive this morning on one test only. gps in my area do not do serum hcgs so will have to contact epas.

I had one of the pregnancy ‘nightmares’ last night that started on the wednesday following my first positive test - horrific.

I had a chemical at just after 5 weeks a few months ago, my lines were darker than yours but then started fading. I didn’t start bleeding until the lines were quite faint.
you could have just ovulated later though if you don’t track ovulation, but by the last sex date (even if you ovulated 5 days later as sperm can survive) it does seem quite light.
unfortunately only time will tell xx

Should I push for bloods or a scan today at EPAS?

The EPU near me says only from 5 weeks if you’ve got pain/bleeding. I think generally they don’t see you for early chemical losses unless pain or bleeding (which doesn’t make sense as if you’re having a chemical you’ll probably have those), I’ve never tried though that’s just going by reading what others have said

Should I push for bloods or a scan today at EPAS?

A scan at 5 weeks would be pointless and inconclusive. Even a healthy pregnancy wouldn’t be evident on a scan at 5 weeks, so a scan wouldn’t be worthwhile.

You could ask for bloods but as standard it is not something the NHS do, 5 weeks with an unknown ovulation date would still just be “wait and see” from my GP/EPU

Wisteria25 · 19/06/2025 08:46

I went to the gp but they were unhelpful as just wanted me to do a pregnant test, and as it was already almost faded on home sensitive pregnancy tests, nothing showed on the gps less sensitive test and I just felt a bit silly x

VanessaShanessaJenkins99 · 19/06/2025 09:10

Our EPU wont see you until your 6 weeks and even then its only if your in pain or bleeding - so i dont think that anywhere would actually see you based on like PP said an unknown ovulation date and faint tests - they will just tell you to wait and see what happens. Not ideal i know but there really isnt anything you can do at the moment

This is how i feel now - i am not going to bother them. Done a clearblue (negative not even an evap line), FRER negative. Very faint positive on a strip
and negative easy at home.

I would be 11 days past a missed period so I think highly unlikely now if its not showing. I did have a faint positive on clearblue, FRER and easy at home 1-2 weeks ago. I had booked a scan at window to the womb for next Friday and paid a non refundable I believe deposit so I might still go.

i have started to think about next cycle and done ovulation tests today smile face on CB and positive on the strips I will just DTD tonight and try and forget about the faint positive preg tests of the past few weeks.

It’s so hard, I’m sorry it’s happening to you. With mine I did have a bleed once the lines faded and then ovulated around the usual time. LH tests may show darker if there’s still some hcg in your body, so worth keeping an eye on them to work out whether it’s remaining hcg or rising LH. Hope you’re feeling ok xx
