Did you have a scan on the day of egg retrieval?

I didn’t, and all of the eggs that were collected were immature. The clinic are trying to blame me and say there’s something wrong with my eggs (while encouraging me to try again and pay for another round). I feel like they were taken out too early.

Just wondering what the standard practice is with other clinics? I turned up on the day expecting a scan and they just said they don’t do them and went straight to retrieval.

I didn't have a scan on the day but I had a scan about 3 days before and they booked me on based on that scans findings! Sorry to hear things haven't gone well x

Hi there. Sorry to read your post - no - I never had a scan on the day of all 3 of my egg retrievals. Sending solidarity x

I didn’t either. When did you have your last scan before EC? How big were your follicles and when did you have your trigger injection and then when was egg collection?

StrawberryPi · 05/06/2025 14:29

Your retrieval would likely include a scan so it makes sense that they wouldn't do a separate one prior. That said, if they have retrieved too early that does sound like a failure on their part - I'm really sorry.

Nope no scan on collection day. Sometimes they don't know what they're getting until they take them out. Immature as in they hadn't grown to the right size? When did they last scan you? I had a collection where they said they all looked crap and sure enough none worked. But they did try fertilisation

Hollowaysunrise · 05/06/2025 19:29

Thanks everyone. I think the last scan was three days earlier and then the trigger 72 hours before collection. I can’t remember what size the follicles were. They said they were germinal vesicles (still not quite sure what that means) and wouldn’t mature.

I googled and it looks like if that’s the case it would be very rare for that to happen to all of them, and I’d had a child just over a year earlier so I don’t see how all my eggs could have turned to crap that quickly after

I had a scan 2 days before & trigger 36 hours before collection

Hollowaysunrise · 05/06/2025 20:12

Thanks @FTIVF25 maybe I’m misremembering when the trigger was!

I felt like I ovulated the morning of the collection so they did scan me to see if I was right, and I was, most of the eggs had already ovulated, we still went ahead with the retrieval and got 7 eggs

FTIVF25 · 06/06/2025 07:19

@Hollowaysunrise ivf is all a blur with the amount of information given. I don’t think it’s fair they are blaming you though, they should be helping you through it.

Cheesystick · 06/06/2025 12:16

It's not that all of your eggs might have turned crap op. It might have just been a bad month like it would be if you weren't doing IVF. It's crap, I sympathise.
