When to contact GP after bfp?

Hi all,

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant after 2 looong years of trying. I’ve got a faint bfp on multiple tests and confirmed with a digital this evening.
My question is when to contact the GP? Is it too soon or is it better to get the ball rolling straight away?

Im also due to start a new job in 3 weeks time and it’s making me horribly anxious to think about telling them😭

You probably won't want the GP, you'll self refer to midwifery. Check your trust website.

Most places the gp want anything to do with you but the surgery will give you the number for the midwives. You ring them for a booking in appointment which will just be some questions and form filling around 8 weeks and they then organise your 12 week scan as which your first bloods are taken. Very little else happens until that's been done.

You don't contact your GP, you refer yourself to your local midwife service.
Unless you have an unrelated issue during your pregnant, you won't see your GP at all.

I registered with the midwife around 8 weeks in my pregnancies and then booked in for an initial booking appt

I register with the midwife straight away as after over 10yrs ttc I finally got pregnant. I’ve had losses since and wanted to be referred to recurrent MC unit but they wouldn’t count some of the losses as MCs so I registered the last loss straight away which after having another MC it counted
