TTC after an ectopic

Anyone else in the same boat?
Have been trying now for 6 months and no luck.
I have one child already, first time around it only took 2 cycles, then the second time (with the ectopic) it was on the 3rd cycle. So the fact it’s now taking so much longer is freaking me out, though I did get told that could be the case with only 1 fallopian tube.
I thought this thread could be a space to share the TTC journey and any experiences/frustrations/fears - and also hope, if anyone has successfully had a baby after an ectopic and tube removal I’d love to hear from you too.

I’m ttc baby no2 after ectopic and tube removal. We’re on month 2 ttc again, I’ve also concieved quickly in the past but I really do think it will take much longer this time. If we don’t have any luck in the new few months I’m going to get some private testing done to make sure everything looks okay. Have your cycles returned to normal now?

SnackAttack36 · 13/05/2025 21:59

@BGxxxFingers crossed for you! Yes, my cycles are as normal, it’s actually been well over a year since the surgery, but for various reasons have only been TTC in the last few months. Am actually thinking of having some kind of tests done soon too, as we’re no longer very young…fees like such an uphill battle!

@SnackAttack36 I’m not really sure what tests we would need! I called a fertility clinic but they just suggested a basic fertility check which I’m not sure will be overly helpful. My ectopic was the start of Feb so we’re still early days but I didn’t really want a massive age gap!

LeOontet30 · 14/05/2025 07:19

I had an ectopic and tube removed on my first pregnancy. I have since gone on to have two successful pregnancies, I know that's not the same situation as you but wanted to share a positive experience and wishing you the best. Any questions let me know.

SnackAttack36 · 14/05/2025 16:51

@BGxxx Ah February is very recent, how are you feeling about it all? I developed quite severe anxiety and depression after it happened and am only emerging from the fug now.

@LeOontet30Thats encouraging to hear, do you mind me asking how long it took to get pregnant after the tube removal?

I have ovulation pain on the right side every month, and that’s also the side I don’t have a tube on. I’ve read that the other tube can pick up the egg from the opposite side, but I don’t know if that’s the case for everyone.

I had a ectopic, and had tube removed, it ruptured so didn't have a choice. I never tried again. As already had kids and we decided to quit but my specialist said having 1 tube doesn't make it any harder to conceive but the body does take a year to heal.
Good Luck

BGxxx · 14/05/2025 17:40

@SnackAttack36 honestly fine! I think I’m quite lucky I haven’t been effected by it all, my only anxiety if I had to say one is about how long it will take to concieve again

Im also thinking the same, both my daughter and the ectopic is my left tube, so hoping my right ovary isn’t the slacker and does actually ovulate to make it a bit easier!

LeOontet30 · 14/05/2025 20:09

@SnackAttack36 it really put me off trying as I just assumed that it would happen again. We didn't try for another 4 years (the ectopic was unplanned) but when we did it took one cycle the first time and the second two cycles. The way the ectopic was treated by the hospital wasn't good at all unfortunately so I think that was also a reason we waited so long. However when we did fall pregnant they were amazing and I was seen by EPU immediately and had regular appointments for bloods and scans until we new it was a viable.

SnackAttack36 · 15/05/2025 00:04

@BGxxxFingers crossed for you! That’s great that you don’t have any anxiety. I’m so anxious about it happening again, I feel like my body is defective or something.

@LeOontet30Oh wow, that is quick, how old were you if you don’t mind me asking? I’m 36 now and feel like time isn’t on my side.

@SnackAttack36 31 and 35 so similar. Have my fingers crossed for you!

BGxxx · 16/05/2025 10:22

I tested this morning at 8dpo and got a positive. Keeping everything crossed all is okay and this is baby no2🤞🏻🤞🏻

SnackAttack36 · 16/05/2025 15:43

@LeOontet30ok that gives me hope!

@BGxxxOoh congratulations! Fingers crossed for you that it all works out well!

I’m 8 months post ectopic and left tube removal and no luck falling pregnant so far. I had been trying for 12 months when I fell pregnant with the ectopic. I fell pregnant first cycles with both DS, so really struggling. It’s nice to read positive stories on this thread, although i’m starting to lose hope! I’ve been referred for fertility investigations by GP, don’t think i’d ever be able to afford IVF though so just have to keep going. Sending you baby dust and hope it happens for you soon ✨

SnackAttack36 · 20/05/2025 11:05

@SWealThank you, and likewise! It’s so hard when there’s such a long wait and no certainty of it happening.
New cycle is starting now, so hopefully this will be the month to get a positive 🤞

Yet another Big Fat Negative 😢 Starting to feel like it’s never going to happen. Everyone around me is having second and third babies too, which makes it harder. How is everyone else doing this month?

SWeal · 09/06/2025 21:06

@SnackAttack36 Sorry you’re out this month! I know that feeling so well 😢 I’m just at the end of my ovulation window so going into another tww. I’m just not hopeful at all anymore, really struggling to stay positive about it all! I’m definitely considering IVF early next year once I’ve had some tests done to check if things are ok. Hope you’re doing ok as can be xx

SnackAttack36 · 09/06/2025 23:26

It’s so depressing isn’t it. I know what you mean about not being hopeful, I now just assume it’s going to be BFN unless proven otherwise. Not bothering with the expensive early tests anymore, just doing the cheap ones on the day period is due.
Still, there’s always a bit of hope, so keeping fingers crossed for you for this tww!
Can you get IVF on the NHS where you are or would you have to pay for it?

OP posts:
SWeal · 15/06/2025 23:02

@SnackAttack36 Sorry, only just seen this! I don’t ever do tests anymore, only if AF is late as i’m normally like clockwork! We’ll have to pay for IVF as we already have a little one, i’d pay anything at this point - I feel like time is just going so fast and i’m getting older. Hope you’ve been ok this week 💕

SnackAttack36 · 26/06/2025 20:47

@SWealYou’re braver than me, I obsessively test even if I get AF as need to make sure it’s definitely AF and not another ectopic.
Totally feel you on the getting older part. If I hadn’t had the ectopic I’d have had my family completed by 35, which was my original cut off point, but now that’s obviously been extended.
Hope you decide what’s best re the IVF. It’s so expensive.
I’m in another tww now, have sore boobs but it’s too early for it to be pregnancy related so most likely luteal phase hormones before yet another AF.

Not the same as I haven't had an ectopic but we're trying for baby number 2. Baby 1 took us 8 cycles. For baby 2 I fell pregnant on our third cycle in October and miscarried in November. We've been trying again since January and it's still not happened and I tested negative again today. We've now started fertility tests to see if there is an issue hindering our chances but beyond that, ive got no idea what's going on!

I'm struggling with how long it is taking too. My sister fell pregnant a few days after me, was due two days after I would have been and gave birth at the weekend. Im so happy for her but also very sad that we've not even had a hint of a pregnancy since we sadly lost our summer baby

SnackAttack36 · 27/06/2025 15:55

@Lollystar15So sorry that happened to you. I hope it happens for you soon. I suppose if you’ve had one successful pregnancy and birth then it’s not out of the question you can have another. The fertility tests will hopefully give you answers, or if everything is fine then will reassure you.
We’ll probably start fertility testing soon too.
I have a friend who was pregnant at exactly the same time as me, every time I see her and her baby I think “that should’ve been me too, I’d have had a baby X months old by now”.
But I can’t let myself think like that or it will eat me up.
