Ovulation dates

Hey girls,

I am reaching out for some clarity on my ovulation dates/peak day.

For context, my periods are usually 4 days in total. I came on last week Friday and quite literally ending today. According to Flo, my ovulation window is from 17th-23rd May, Peak Day occurring on the 21st.

Does this mean I will have difficulty in conceiving, as the ovulation window is 5 days after my period.
I feel quite concerned about this as I am in my third cycle and no luck as of yet! I don’t suffer from any fertility issues at all, my periods have always been on time and regular. My cycle length can vary between 28-29 days.

I would be so appreciative if someone could shed some light onto this?

Thanks so much!

Hi @KKD90 so on average most women ovulate day 14 of their cycle, but there can be a lot of variation in this. Some earlier, some later. They usually say a 5 day window because sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days so you can get pregnant from sex prior to when you actually release the egg.
Your predicted window being 5 days after your period finishes is totally normal. Count day 1 of your period as cycle day 1. So the app is telling you cycle day 9 is the beginning of your fertile period, ovulation cycle day 13, and ends cycle day 15. All totally average.

Now, take what any app says with a HUGE pinch of salt. All it can do is work off averages. Like I said before every woman is different and apps cannot account for that. Listen to your body's signals for ovulation (EWCM, increased sex drive) and trust that over an app. Something else to think about could tracking ovulation with OPKs. That would give you a good idea when you ovulate but not always necessary to go that route.

Hi @Lavenderandlemons - thank you for explaining and the clarity! there is a lot riding on this at the moment, i’m also a very healthy 35 year old, my hormone panel test came back as normal, but I think a part of me feels disappointed we haven’t had a single positive pregnancy.

So, with all of this I’m trying to wrap my head around my cycle. I agree with using OPKs and have done every month, they have worked well alongside Flo and every month has been correct! But again, not a single positive.

I want to try before we enter the fertile period, perhaps a day or two before the window. I don’t quite understand the days of when to baby dance, is it best two days before the fertile window?

thank you!😌

I know how disheartening it can be. But try to keep your head up, 3 months isn't very long when TTC as they say up to a year is normal for a healthy couple. Don't lose hope!

That's great you've confirmed ovulation with OPKs so you know exactly where you are with dates.
So no, you don't need to start DTD before the fertile window, as the window accounts for the possible days you can conceive before the egg is released. Anything sooner and the sperm won't live long enough to see the egg.
DTD every other day in the lead up to ovulation, the day you get your peak and the 2 days following peak.
Peak OPK means the egg will be released anything from 12-36 hours later. So DTD as above should have you well covered (exhausting, I know😅).
