I have just been offered a new job which I’ll be starting mid August. We are on cycle 3 of ttc and I’ll anxious about starting a new job pregnant.
worst case I’ll be 13 weeks when I start.
I don’t want to put of TTC, I’m 36.
anyone ever been in this situation?

What’s your financial situation? Best case you may start the job but not be entitled to maternity pay or SMP, if that’s okay then go for it.

I would be wary though, you’re very vulnerable when you first start a job and they can get rid of you for anything so it would be easy for them to dismiss you without explicitly saying it’s pregnancy related.

I would only get SMP at this place anyway and could apply for maternity allowance which is the same amount of money so no worries there.
I get what you’re saying, but dismissing me wouldn’t be of much benefit to them surely. By the time they’ve recruited again I’d be pretty much back from my leave lol.
i just don’t want to annoy a work place that I see as a long term thing but also don’t want to put off ttc. If only we could have a crystal ball and know when/if it will happen

Hi @rachael2308 so, there is a possibility you may not be entitled to much, most work policies say 6-8 months of work to be entitled, but they also vary from company to company!

I am in a similar situation to yourself, I am in my third cycle ttc and no luck as of yet! But I have seen a few great job opps and may just go for them, it could take me a while ttc. It is really hit and miss! x

I wouldn’t be entitled to SMP but that’s ok.
I accepted the job today. What will be will be 🙊
I think you can’t put life on hold for ttc
