Low AMH?

Hi everyone! Wondering if anyone can help me, I’ve just had my day 21 results and they confirm ovulation but I think my AMH is very low at 3.6 pmol/L, however Google seems to be giving my conflicting information? I’ve not seen the GP to discuss yet. For context I’m 40, and have suspected bowel endometriosis for which I’m awaiting an MRI, as you can see, luck doesn’t appear to be on my side :-(

If the AMH test is not available on the NHS you can book a private one for £50

Thanks for your message. The test was done privately, my results are the 3.6

Hey, thanks for your message. How old are you if you don’t mind me asking? I had an MRI yesterday for bowel endo so waiting on results of that. I haven’t seen my consultant yet, but I am currently having acupuncture. She is medically trained and explained to me that the AMH isn’t awful but is on the low side but it’s egg quality that counts and not quantity, which makes sense. My progesterone was very good so that is good news. I’ve also read that AMH is more a measure for docs to see how you’d respond to IVF which isn’t an option for us anyway. I’m just trying to stay positive, I am convinced my issue is endo, but we shall see.
Where are you in your TTC journey?

Hey, that's good to keep positive I'm trying but I feel like it's a big blow. I had a miscarriage last October and thinking now perhaps this could be one of the reasons.. we are trying ever since. I will be 35 in a few weeks. What was your progesterone reading? Mine was 1.4 mmol on the second day of my period so not sure how it's read but sounds low to me 😪 at least you are trying some things the acupuncture sounds interesting I might look into that too. When do you see your consultant

I had low Amh , firstly don’t imagine your GP will really get the ins and outs of fertility so try to be referred to somebody who does. Amh is tricky I kept thinking it only takes one good egg and focused on egg health took dhea ( Google it) and melatonin as were meant to help. The worst thing about a low ovarian reserve diagnosis is it often takes IVF as an option off the table. I had a few mc but eventually conceived a sticky bean 🥰 after 3 years naturally at 39. Also check test was done on the right day in your cycle. Goodluck.

I also have low AMH, it was 7.5 2 years ago, I am 36 now & it’s likely to have halved now. My doctor has said it’s not a marker of fertility it is a marker of time & how you will respond to IVF. However many clinics will work with you with low AMH. The NHS probs won’t. @Michelle292 Progesterone needs to be over 30 to confirm successful ovulation so maybe your issue is that you aren’t ovulating or you aren’t always ovulating / have weak ovulation? Have you had other tests done?

Barney2009 · 13/05/2025 10:30

Thanks everyone for commenting, it’s helpful to see all your stories! @Michelle292 i had my day 21 bloods done and my progesterone was 48.3 which confirms ovulation and is pretty good from what im told, so that aspect seems to be working okay. You’d probably be better with a day 21 test, as on day 2 of your period I would imagine it would be low anyway. I had a miscarriage end of 2023 after falling pregnant on Clomid, so I’m wondering if the AMH might have been a factor in that but who knows. The acupuncture is good, my symptoms have improved, not pregnant yet but it’s great having someone impartial to talk to as well and recommend supplements. I see the consultant on 3rd June, preparing myself for bad news to be honest.
@Attictroll ive heard of this dhea, im taking coq10, can you take both? Congratulations on your sticky bean, that’s great news.
