Hi,

My husband and I are trying to conceive our 3rd baby. I am 38, have had 2 pregnancies, 1st natural vaginal birth, 2nd resulted in emcs 12 months ago. First month ttc and no luck sadly. My periods seem heavier and more clotty now.. but was checked out by gynae and said all ok after scan... has anyone any advice/info on how long it took to conceive in a similar circumstance? Obviously I am on the slightly older side now .. I know I am incredibley lucky to have my 2 kiddos but always dreamed of a bigger family

I know countless people who have become pregnant at 38 and beyond with no issues.

As you get older, the likelihood of success each month becomes a bit lower. So - becoming pregnant first time was less likely than when you had your first!

You'll get all sorts of responses to this OP. Plenty of people fall pregnant relatively easily at 38, but also a lot struggle, so it's a real mixed bag and completely depends on your (and your partner's) situation. I've kind of been on both ends of it - I had a surprise pregnancy after just a few weeks being a bit flakey with the pill at 39 (although that ended in early MC), but I've since been TTC for 3 years with little success (1 CP 20 cycles in, and another early MC last month). I'm sure lots of women will be along with rather more success stories. Good luck!

I fell pregnant at 37 with my 2nd in 2022. It only took 2 proper cycles which was lucky. We are just starting to try again and I'm now 40. Trying not to worry about age and hoping we fall pregnant pretty quickly again this time

I fell preg at 36.5 fast
But was a miscarriage

Am now doing ivf at 38

( due to pcos, suspected endo , blocked tubes etc)

If you had emc 12 months ago do you want to give your scar and womb a bit more time to recover?

Laura22023 · 22/04/2025 20:53

Thanks all for responses... I suppose given that I am gone 38 was hoping it would happen quickly. @Darkambergingerlily ai was advised to wait 12 to 18 months before ttc ... I have waited 12 months and was checked out by obgyn in November and she said all looked fine internally with womb etc.

I’m impressed! I am 20 months post c section and due to give birth and v nervous about scar! Accidental pregnancy I wanted to wait longer after surgery

best of luck, I am sure all will be fine and congratulations
