On what day dpo did you get your bfp and what time of day is best?

Hi all,

Am fairly new to this whole TTC malarkey, so apologies if this isn’t the right place to post this.

Essentially, on what day dpo did you get a bfp and what time of day is best to test?

For context, me and DH have been TTC for the past few months and currently on CD26/ approx DPO 12.

I’m a bit confused about all the different tests available, when one is meant to test/ before or after eating/ time of day etc. I’m in the UK, in case that’s handy.

Thanks for your help!

This calculator shows the stats for tests and DPO - it goes from 50/50 chance of showing a positive at 10 dpo to 80% chance of picking up pregnancy at 12dpo on a sensitive (10miu) test.

First morning urine is generally considered the best to use, although some women report better results with the second pee of the day.

good luck!

10DPO, first morning urine.

Sorry - pressed send too quickly.

Also want to add that I had a positive test with a 10miu test - line appeared within a minhte

25miu test - negative - as tests should be discarded after 5mins. Line only appeared 15 minutes later. I got a positive test on the 25miu test at 12DPO.

I got mine at 10dpo (last week!) it was very faint but was in the evening. I tested the next morning and got a strong positive

Thank you, I’m not sure what “miu” means sorry (am a total newbie haha!) I’ve bought two types of Clear Blue ones (a digital one and then some fast result 1 minute ones), and a pack of cheapies from the local pharmacy.

Mii = milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/m

basically the concentration of HCG hormone in your urine. The lower the number, the more sensitive the test will be.

Supermarket cheapies are usually 25. Clear blue digi may be 10 - check the box.

defo use first morning urine as the concentration of HCG will be higher. Good luck!

Thank you, that’s really helpful! I think I’ll wait a couple more days until then as I don’t want to test too soon.

Oh congratulations!! I’m not even sure if I’m still “in” this cycle, as I had some brown spotting for a few days between DPO 8-10 but that’s now stopped. But still getting some symptoms which is making me wonder if there’s something going on? Probably just me imagining things…

Oooh that makes sense - never really there might be different sensitivities! I’ll check my tests tomorrow. Thank you!

I’ve checked the ones I have:

  • The fast indication ClearBlue one doesn’t have an mIU
  • ClearBlue digital is 25 mIU
  • Pharmacy cheapie is 20 mIU

Am I right in thinking that the higher mIUs are more sensitive?

Today I’m on CD27 with still no sign of AF. It’s hard for me to predict when it’s next due as I came off the pill last summer and my cycles have been a bit unpredictable since then (ranging anywhere from 21 to 33 days).

The “rapid detection” ClearBlue test is also 25miu.

the higher the number the less sensitive it is - none of these are the extra sensitive, early detection tests although they should be accurate by the time your period is due. For a sensitive, 10miu test, First Response is often the go to, Clear Blue also have an “ultra early” digital one that’s 10miu.

No, the lower the number, the more sensitive it is. The number indicates the level of HCG required to trigger a positive test.

You can buy a box of the easy @ home tests off Amazon. They’re cheap for a box of 20 or as someone said previously, Clear blue have an ultra early test which is 10miu. Always always use first morning urine

Pianogirl1994 · 21/04/2025 17:42

That’s odd - as both Clear Blue test packs say can be used up to 4 or 5 days before expected period.

AF showed on Saturday, the day before she was due so I guess that’s me out this cycle! But thank you all so much anyway!

Thank you, I’ll definitely try out those Amazon ones.

I am 12 or 13dpo and felt like I got a faint positive in the afternoon today. Would the line be very clear by now or no?

Not necessarily. Depends on when implantation took place, could have been late. I feel like a parrot and I say this on almost every thread but please use first morning urine!
