OPKs struggle - not ovulating??

Excuse the terrible pic - been testing every day late afternoon after 4hr hold (last 2 days I’ve also tested before bed). CD19 looks darker but never as dark as control line - does this mean I’m not ovulating or should I change test brand? 😭 driving me nuts!

You might need to test twice per day? Sometimes my peak is very short. Or change brand to see if it makes a difference?

Edited to ask is your cycle regular? Do you get other ovulation symptoms like EWCM?

BlondeMummyto1 · 09/04/2025 19:32

Those look very light. It would be worth changing brands as a first move and maybe testing a couple of times each day but even so, I would expect a stronger line in the lead up to ovulation.

I would change the brand and test twice a day. I also used EWCM as an indication so I am wondering if it’s something you are able to feel/see on your cycles.

My cycle is all over the place and has been since coming off contraception almost 3 years ago, my last 3 cycles have been 48 days, then 21, then 36 😩 I’ve been tested for PCOS which I don’t have but GP is reluctant to investigate further as they reckon it’s within normal range (I disagree!)

As PPs have said, if you get a short surge it's so easy to miss the peak. In 3 years of TTC this time round I've only caught my peak about once, but treat anything much above 0.2 on PreMom as a surge, and low and behold AF has rocked up about 13 days later. So, if you get AF (or even better, a BFP!) around two weeks after CD19 that will have been your 'peak'. Do you also take BBT? That's really useful to confirm ovulation, especially if OPKs aren't being helpful. Good luck!

@Megmallow my cycles were the same when I came off the pill so I sympathise. I used to test twice per day starting 8 days ish after AF ended and in time got used to my body feeling different during ovulation (ewcm, feeling tired and sluggish, bloated). I also got sore boobs almost immediately after ovulating so if that happened I knew I had missed it.

I wondered at the time if I had PCOS but did conceive after 4 cycles of catching ovulation and ironically since having my DS my cycles are now clockwork and ovulation very predictable but appreciate you need to ttc first so that’s not very helpful!

Update - I changed OPK brand to easy @ home, started using the premom app to track and managed to find my peak this month ☺️ Started taking zinc and vit B supplements too so wonder if it’s related, fingers crossed for a more typical cycle this month if nothing else!
