Thick uterine lining and gestational sac on scan, not pregnant

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anyone has had a similar situation. I am loosely TTC, but not religiously so. I didn’t TTC last month and missed ovulation window. I had a scan to start fertility testing the day after my period ended (we had been told previously it might be difficult so getting ahead of it) and during the internal scan the consultant mentioned that my uterine lining was thick and also that there was what appeared to be a gestational sac. I was a bit baffled, as I hadn’t TTC that month but did accept I could have ovulated late. My period is also very light (1-2 days) and was only 1 day this month, so she did say it could have been implantation bleeding.

At end of the appointment when she removed the probe there was some blood on it, just a small amount. The consultant then back tracked and said actually you’re probably just on day 2 of your period and that’s why the lining is thick, but take a test anyway to rule it out.

I took a test and I felt I could see a barely visible line, but I don’t quite trust that I don’t hallucinate those lines. I have however just reached day 14 post (potentially late) ovulation and conception, and test is still negative.

The weird thing is that I didn’t have any further bleeding like she said. There was one spot of blood the night of the scan and nothing further. Now I am left a bit worried about why my uterine lining is thick and what the ‘sac’ actually was. I don’t have my follow up appointment for a few weeks.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? Or been told they have thick uterine lining? Or had a gestational sac misdiagnosed when it was a cyst or something else?

if anyone could help out my mind at ease it would be greatly appreciated!

I feel like they probably wouldn't get a gestation sac and a cycst mixed up. From my very untrained experience they look very different.
As frustrating as it if, you'll be able to tell more at your follow up scan. They are professionals who dp this for a living.
Also, very jealous of your 1 -2 day light periods 🙈
