When to be concerned about spotting?

Hi all,

I have been ttc my second for over a year now with no success. I have always spotted for 2-3 days before a period and this has been very normal for me.

In November I had a very odd cycle and spotted from 5dpo to 13dpo. Period when it eventually came was very light and 2 days late.

I contacted the GP who (as they generally always are🫠🫠) were unconcerned and quite dismissive and just told me to keep an eye on it.

This cycle I am currently 9dpo and have again been spotting since 6dpo (period not expected until 11/12dpo)

Am I right to be a bit concerned? My last period was also very light. I have lost 23lbs since January but am just under 10 stone and 5 foot 4 so certainly not near being under weight but I don’t know if losing weight has thrown things off? (I should add this weight loss has been intentional)

My main worry is that spotting can be a sign of cervical cancer. Just looking for some advice and if you were me would you contact the GP again? I am 35 btw.

You’ve lost a lot of weight so your cycles will be messed up. You probably aren’t ovulating so aren’t having proper periods. Have you stopped dieting?

hi, thanks for your reply. My weight loss has been about 2lbs per week which I thought was fine? I wouldn’t have expected that to have an affect on my ovulation😳

If you're worried about Cervical cancer ask your GP for a referral to colposcopy. They can see patients in between routine tests if you have any worrying symptoms

It doesn’t take much to alter your period and stop ovulating. How do you know you’re 9dpo? This doesn’t sound like cervical cancer.

I am fairly sure of ovulation as monitor bbt and use opks

Could be peri menopause and progesterone levels. How old are you? This can happen any time not just when older. Buy some great strong b vitamins complex. GPs know v little about fertility- maybe ask for hormone tests.

Hi, I am 35. I had progesterone and thyroid bloods tests about 4 months ago (all I can get on the NHS) and all came back normal. I may have to consider going private for more tests.

What day of cycle did they take progesterone? Personally I would guess at 35 a luteal phase defect… get your self to H&B and buy https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/holland-barrett-complete-b-vitamin-b-complex-caplets-60001253?skuid=049900&utm_campaign=shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD96OoJmDzcoRDJx_VdidHnnovRb9&gclid=Cj0KCQjwv_m-BhC4ARIsAIqNeBvOxKBmqGrEmsSGufeTGn8_1HtRpGOyqmxJ8Px47ZEgR-FkgnvK5icaAgQ6EALw_wcB give it a month or two and see if any change. After years of trying, a number of miscarriages and no one taking spotting seriously after following similar advice had a bfp with a sticky bean who is now playing in his room 🥰
