Does anyone have experience of this? Hubby has just had it done and we are nervously awaiting the outcome!

Thomcat · 15/07/2008 21:35

Thanks for that and best of luck to you, and everyone else, xxx

terrier141 · 16/07/2008 08:33

We had a springer and she is mental - couldnt get hold of a crate yesterday so she slept in the kitchen with the other dog - didnt hear her! She dint chew anything or make any mess! She's following me everywhere and will come when called and fetch a ball and bring it back! She's lush! Shes pestering my old dog to play all the time though and he's way too old - he just ignores her! She was living in a shed before and had to have a nice bath when I brought her home!

welshlinz - hows your dh's bruising today?

pinkmook - are you feeling any better today?

thomcat - I would advise your friend to nag him to have it done asap - due to age (of both), length of time since reversal and the fact that it can take up to 2 years to conceive even if the op is a success. x

Thomcat - I would agree with terrier, the chances get lower the longer you leave it. We were advised to get reversal done even though we thought we wanted to wait till end of this yr to try (in the end we didn't and I am glad we didn't as things are a lot more complicated thasn we thought and delaying things could have made it worse) So in summary tell your friend to get nagging !!

Terrier - am feeling ok think the spotting seems to have stopped (will have to keep knicker checking! My god have I done some knicker checking this last 12 months!!) still a tiny bit crampy but OK. Need to get DH's further sperm tests done next then when we see the consultant at the end of august we can decide what to do next!

KatieDD _ nice to see you back! I know how you feel about the school bumps! A mother at my DS's school who has 3 DC'sand is 43 has just announced she is 12 weeks

Linz/terrier - all this talk of dogs is makiing me want to get one!

welshlinz · 16/07/2008 16:13

hi all, great news about your puppy terrier. Glad to see she's settled in already. You are v. lucky she's been so good !! Perhaps she's more settled because she can sleep with your older dog x

DHs bruising is a bit better today but we've noticed a lump which is relly sore around the top of his scrotum to one side. Told him to phone the docs but typical man is refusing to acknowledge it may be a problem ! He thinks it was where the dog jumped up on him so has put it down to swelling because of that. I'll keep an eye on him though. Don't suppose your DHs had any problems with fluid type lumps ??!!

Just want him to get better now so we can try things out. Definately going to leave it for this month I think though as he's just so sore and I'm due to ovulate soon.

Thomcat · 16/07/2008 20:14

Thanks so much girls. Xxxxx

terrier141 · 17/07/2008 08:06

linz- cant say we noticed anything like you've mentioned - best to get him checked if you are worried.

pink - glad you are feeling a bit better - do you know what other options you could consider? Are you thinking IVF or the other similar thing I cant remember the abbreviation for!?

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

sorry to hijack, but i have a quick q and would appreciate opinions...

i'm 37, dh 37, 3 kids vasectomy 4 years ago immediately after birth of dc3 which was v traumatic.

at the time we panicked and thought we could never contemplate having any more dcs as dd2 was v v poorly and no-one knew why - dh had his surgery within 3 months of her birth with no counselling etc - i didn't even see doc, but it was a joint decision.

fast forward four years - i'm really wondering if we did the right thing - dd2's problems have now been attributed to birth hypoxia and she has made astounding progress, will always have sn but is a star... consultant has said i would be cs candidate for any future pg to lessen risk.

i'm wondering if i am brave enough to ask dh to discuss vr. or is it pointless at this point in our lives with age etc...?

views very welcome...

welshlinz · 17/07/2008 11:57

Hi Romy7, story seems fairly similar to mine although we only have the one child. The birth was extremely traumatic which unfortunately my husband had to watch and afterwards we decided we didn't want anymore. 2 years on, we looked into things, saw consultants etc and after finding a possible solution we changed our minds and hubby had op done on Friday for a reversal.

Not sure about the age thing but wouldn't have thought it would be a problem at 37. I'm late 20's but have recently read age doesn't matter in terms of success rates with the procedure anyway. Its mainly the amount of time that has passed since orginal vasectomy was performed. 5 years isn't too long so hopefully the operation would be successful.

One thing I have noticed since joining the forum is get it done asap as it can take 12 months for sperm to start coming through properly etc.. so get booked in as soon as !!

pinkmook · 17/07/2008 12:42

Hi Romy7 - I would agree with welshlinz, get booked in asap as length of time from original sugery is a big factor. Our story similar to yours, very rushed decision DH was 29years old we had 6m old baby (our only DC), traumatic birth, I was not happy but DH got a cancellation and was operated on within a few weeks of seeing doc to enquire.

Its a bloody heart breaking situation, I keep thinking "I just want one more" as I hate the idea of DS being an only child, I feel sick when I dwell on it too much

Terrier - yes we would be looking at IVF with I think (???) ICSI as IIRC ICSI is used where sperm are poor.

welshlinz · 17/07/2008 12:47

well girls, after all my good intentions of waiting 2 weeks, DH got a bit fruity last night and we tried things out !

Don't no if it was a good idea but all seems ok this morning anyway. Now we're wondering if anything came out because without being too graphic DH felt something happening but I had no evidence IYSWIM.

Anyway hope everyone is ok xx

pinkmook · 17/07/2008 14:34

Ha ha linz you naughty girl! I dont honestly think it will do any harm - the consultant said it wouldn't make any difference to us and said the only reason not to do it is if it hurts too much - if not go for it! Are you in a fertile phase or was this just a practice run LOL

terrier141 · 17/07/2008 14:39

welshlinz - you dont hang about do you?!! Lol!

Romy7 - Im with the others on this - time is very important. Maybe you could just drop some subtle hints to test the water - if he doesnt click then you'll have to be blunt! You definately need to at least talk about it otherwise you might always wonder "what if" Good luck xx

OP posts:
welshlinz · 17/07/2008 15:19

pink, no wasn't a fertile phase. According to fertilityfriend my fertile days start tomorrow but this was just a practise to see if everything worked lol

Don't think we'll start actively trying till next month but for now we'll have a few practise runs

Dh has been having pulling pains in his stomach the last few days but phoned the GP and he thinks it's just pressure on his tubes and nothing to worry about. He's in quite a lot of pain with it though

welshlinz · 17/07/2008 15:21

terrier, It wasn't my idea honest ! DH was so persuasive and lets face it, who could turn down a man wearing one of those sexy support straps

pinkmook · 17/07/2008 16:37

Linz - we all know how alluring those support straps are LOL

welshlinz · 18/07/2008 11:04

ok, what the hell is going on ?? Just been to the loo and to my complete suprise I'm spotting !! According to fertility friend I'm meant to be on a fertile day today so now I'm mega confused and highly pissed off. Never bleed in between periods normally so can't believe my bad luck !!

terrier141 · 19/07/2008 08:27

linz- I have no idea what your spotting is about - but just wanted to let you know that its been the same for me too, not the spotting , but just that everything has gone haywire since ttc! Cycles are all over the place, loads of pg symptoms etc etc! welcome to the rollacoaster! x

OP posts:
welshlinz · 19/07/2008 12:27

thanks terrier, it was so strange yesterday as it stopped within an hour and am fine again now. Are you on the same cycle as me now with your fertile days beginning yesterday ? If so, hope you're making the most of it. DH is in no fit state still so have left him alone for now but he says he might try again tonight and see what happens lol
Really don't want to be too graphic but you're the only ones I can ask about this. Did your DH's sperm look back to normal straight away after the op eg. white & lumpy etc.. as DH is really watery and fluid like with very little else in it ? I am assuming it is because he is still healing and it's taking it's time to come through but would be really interested to hear if it's normal or not !!

terrier141 · 21/07/2008 07:59

linz- my dh's sperm looked exactly the same straight after as before. Hows your dh feeling now? Are you giving him plenty of tlc?
Yes I think we are on the same cycle - theres not been much action so far - my fault really - bloody exhausted - must make more of an effort!

Wheres everyone else?? Hope you are all well x

OP posts:
welshlinz · 21/07/2008 15:04

hiya, terrier DH is not too bad thanks. He's been in loads of pain so thought we'd better get it checked out. He went to the hospital this morning for the scan and he's got a heamatoma ( not sure how its spelt ! ). basically a blood clot thats formed in his testicle which is why he had the lump. Nothing can be done for it so just a waiting game but he said it won't affect the op in any way and everything looks great where that's concerned.

Bit worried about DHs sperm if yours was back to normal straight away. Mind you he has technically got another 4 days before we were meant to try anything so fingers crossed it will start coming through soon. Can't bare to think he's gone through all this for absolutely nothing !

Anyway, on a more positive note, hows the puupy terrier ??

MannyMoeAndJack · 21/07/2008 15:33

I know a guy at work who had a vasectomy op about 20yrs or so ago - he had it reversed about 6/7yrs ago and has since had 3 dc!

welshlinz · 21/07/2008 15:40

thats fantastic news mannymoeandjack.
Hubby had his reversed last Friday so fingers crossed we are as lucky as your friend x

terrier141 · 22/07/2008 09:03

linz - hope you are spoiling your dh then if he's suffering - Im sure its all gonna be ok.
The puppy is insane! Shes 100 miles an hour every where and will eat anything she can get to! We have her crate trained now though - just at night and if I go out during the day - minimises destruction! Shes lush though, everyone loves her. Shes pretty good with house training , only a few little accidents and completely clean at night from day 1, so really pleased.
We are a bit worried about her one leg though - it looks really deformed - like its broken (wasnt like it when we had her) - took her to the vet who said it was sprained and to rest her (how the hell do I slow down a Spinger!) - we are not convinced!
Hows your little one? x

OP posts:
welshlinz · 22/07/2008 11:13

she's settled in fine and the two of them are constantly chasing and playing with each other which is great because they wear each other out. Sorry to hear about your Springers sprain ( rest her ??? good luck with that lol ).

I am trying to look after DH but boredom has kicked in with him and he's currently painting the dog kennel in the back garden lol My DH is hyperactive so he's done well to take it easy for this long

KatieDD · 23/07/2008 23:06

How is everyone's spirits ?
My friend had a little boy last week, funny looking thing but very sweet, they seem to be coming thick and fast at the moment.
