Hi all

im looking to ttc in may 2025- ive been taking naitre preconception vitamins since mid feb

have started to take omega -3 this month and have just purchased obiquitol (coq10 as i read we need a higher amount)

got some ovulation tests to track this month and next- is there anything else i can do to prep my body before trying? I saw seed cycling but im not sure

DH is a smoker and also on naitre vitamins omega 3 and il be making sure he takes coq10 since feb. I have the occasional smoke (once a month on a night out) but neither of us are drinkers...

ive had three early miscarriages and have a DS who just turned 4 (who is constantly asking for a sibling)

im 33 now so very nervous about trying as im a lot older than when i was pregnant before but had no issues conceiving the pregnancies back then (but i was 28!) just had issue with them sticking really!

Will be contacting my gp for progesterone but any other advice would be appreciated please!

You’d be better off focusing on ensuring he stops smoking rather than pushing vitamins to be honest.

Smoking reduced sperm quality, gives you a lower sperm count and poorer sperm movement, so essentially there is less sperm, the sperm there is is a lower quality and it isn’t moving very quickly. Honestly smoking is one of the leading factors for male infertility, and the sperm cycle is around 3 months so if he quit today then in 3 months time you’d see improvements.

Hes definitely cut down to 3-4 a day but its like banging my head against a brick wall if im honest (work in progress i guess sighs)

You both need to focus on zero smoking rather than vitamin tablets. That’s where the difference will lie

No smoking will improve your chances more than absolutely anything else. You can take all the vitamins and have the best quality egg in the world but it makes no difference if his sperm can’t reach it or are too poor to fertilise it, and poor quality sperm also can then lead to miscarriage.

If he isn’t prepared to stop smoking to have a child, when you’ve already suffered miscarriages and are really on it with supplements etc, I’d be questioning if you’re actually both working towards the same goal.

i do admit it would be better if he stopped smoking alltogether - i have no issue as im not a smoker and havent had anythign at all this year

hes trying to cut down atleast, guess all i can do is talk to him about it again as he wants no.2 more than i do but his willpower when it comes to smoking is weak- been trying to get him to quit for 10 years now

Also our mc were due to me, but again inwould prefer for his sperm not to be the reason for anymore! i have a luteal phase defect and low progesterone. I might try convince him to give a sample so he has proof of what smoking is doing to his swimmers?

The reality is that he wants to smoke more than he wants baby number 2- so I’d focus on that point.

Every cigarette he smokes reduces the chance of you having a child, if he really wants a baby then you’ll see very quick results.

How do you know that?

I had private hormonal testing done (DUTCH advanced) as i had issues losing weight etc and my hormonal imbalances were investigated.

I had high estrogen, normal progesterone first half of my cycle and low progesterone on the second half.. they indicated i had a clear luteal phase defect and i was advised at the time to go on progesterone next time i want to fall pregnant.

Took progesterone with next cycle (conceived my DS) and had a perfectly healthy pregnancy- just worried about the fact i am a lot older now and a bit heavier (altho ive lost 30lbs but still not at the weight i was when i conceived DS, its coming off slowly so most i can do is continue to be healthy while we try (as im not far off being a healthy bmi but still got 18lb to lose to be the same weight as before x

Ask him to go to GP for stop smoking help. Or go to hypnotherapy he needs to be trying harder

peanutForever · 02/05/2025 11:01

Hey all just thought i would let you know that DH has been smoke free for two weeks! Been slowly cutting down so really hoping this helps our chances
