How do I ovulate again?

I didn’t ovulate this month- my husband thinks it is down to stress. I’m the head of a core department in a struggling secondary school and this month stress factors have included:
New leadership team (they currently run the best school in the area so want to impress)
Ofsted
Yr11 mocks (I teacher 50% of the year group)
Teaching 50% of Yr10 (and marking assessments for them) in a big room

I was also diagnosed with an auto immune condition in Dec which I am on quite strong medicine for but does not relate my fertility.

My question is how can I get ovulation going again. I’m 34 btw.

You can't make yourself ovulate. There are medications for ovulation induction such as letrozole.

I guess I was thinking more is this going to be a long time issue? Is that the type of stress that could lead to ovulation stopping? Do we carry on having sex or do I wait for my period?

How do you know you didn't ovulate this month?

Playmobil4Eva · 02/03/2025 21:03

Just going by ovulation test and my period being five days late.

It could have skipped a month, or be delayed if you’re stressed. I think the best thing you can do is to reduce stress (easier said than done!) eat as varied and healthy as you can, try and keep a sleep routine. But these things can take months to help maintain a regular cycle, is this the only time your period has been late? Did you test for ovulation all throughout your cycle and never got a peak? Just wondering if you missed the peak if your period was later than you expected?

Playmobil4Eva · 04/03/2025 18:07

I did three or four ovulation tests but didn’t seem to ever hit a peak. This is the first time it has ever been so late. I’ve taken another pregnancy test today it’s negative. I feel frustrated as I worry we are running out of time to conceive.

Lots of people have the odd cycle where they don't ovulate

3 or 4 ovulation tests a day? Or 3 or 4 total? If you only did 3 or 4 in total over the month, my guess is you missed your peak. Mine came and went in one afternoon and wasn’t on the day I’d have expected, so you need to be doing them multiple times a day (apologies if you were doing this!)

Playmobil4Eva · 05/03/2025 07:40

Over the week- I will start doing multiple times this month. I still haven’t got my period which is 6 days late according to Flo. I guess we just go back to regular sex and then testing for ovulation?

Please ditch the tests! More tests means more stress. Cut down on all stress in your life, and get back to shagging your DH with real passion. Honestly.

Alkaline182 · 05/03/2025 07:46

Just for ref, I’ve added a picture of my tests this month- if I’d only tested a few times over the week, I wouldn’t have caught that peak. I was using the clear blue digital ones before this month and didn’t see a smiley face, thought there was something wrong with me but switching to these and using them all the time, I can see there is a rise and fall. If you don’t know when you ovulate you can start testing every day until the line starts to get slightly darker, then do it every time you pee after that. How many days long does that make this period if it’s 5 days late, are they usually regular?

Thanks everyone this all super helpful. This is day 38 of my cycle. Normally between 29 and 30. I feel like death at the moment as well.

I enjoy testing, doesn’t stress me out at all. I just find it really interesting to know what my body’s doing after never really knowing about this stuff. With one of us often working away, sometimes we might only get 1 or 2 chances in the fertile window, so testing really helps ☺️

Are you pregnancy testing with first wee of the day? If you're unwell that can also delay your period.

Playmobil4Eva · 05/03/2025 20:59

@Britishsummertime22 it was the first wee of the day. Haven’t had any symptoms but also haven’t had any period symptoms either. I just want it to come so I can stop worrying something is wrong.
