Taking body temperature when TTC

Hello everyone

My niece is TTC and it has been suggested that she takes her temperature daily to try to work out when she's ovulating (her periods are irregular and she's being treated by the GP for this)

Which brand of thermometer would you advise her to buy which will be as accurate as possible?

Thanks ❤️

Hiya :) Your neice needs to get a basal body temperature thermometer - they're a lot more sensitive than regular thermometers. :) There are lot of ladies on here who know a lot more about temping than I do but wanted to give your post a little bump!

I can't remember the brand that mine was but it was electonic and you could view the last reading later in the day.

I do remember, however, that it was important to take it at the same time each day (so set an alarm for weekends and go back to sleep afterwards if possible. Also to do it before getting out of bed because once you are up and moving about, it's going to fluctuate.

So I would take the reading at the same time each day, often still half-asleep, then review and record it later when I was up and about. These days you can probably get one which will sync with an app to do the recording and predictions for you.

Thank you both! She tried a bog standard thermometer from Argos , but it wasn't very accurate!

This is the sort of thing she needs. The 2 decimal points make a huge difference. She'll need to then take her temperature on waking up (ideally before sitting up) at the same time each morning. In an ovulatory cycle she'll see a temperature shift after ovulation.

Thank you ! I imagined it would be WAY more expensive to buy an accurate thermometer for ovulation purposes!
