6DPO - spa weekend risk?

I think I’m around 6DPO (give or take 24 hours). I’m going to a spa hotel this weekend for MIL’s 60th. I’ve been so stressed with TTC and I’m itching to enjoy the sauna and hot tub to try and relax as much as possible before the nasty second half of the 2ww.

If this is my month (unlikely, but I’ve got to have hope!) then implantation probably hasn’t occurred yet. Does this mean it’s safe to use the sauna or do you think it could stop me implanting? Has anyone been to a spa and then got pregnant?

Personally I wouldn’t, the heat can affect the embryo if your core temperature raises too much. But there’s usually lots of other rooms at spas you can use which should be fine like salt rooms, warm tiled beds, warm (not hot) pools and spa pools, salt floatation pools, mineral pools. They’ll all be ok to use.

I’m sure you’re probably right… I think I probably will end up being cautious because I’m anxious about ruining my chances. I guess I was hoping that it might be OK because I’m sick of living like a nun in the 2ww only to not be pregnant again. It’s like I’ve completely lost my sense of fun and kind of lost myself, really. :( Hopefully I will enjoy myself despite not being able to fully use the facilities.

I've never heard of not being able to use a sauna etc before you've actually tested positive. Men should avoid them for sure but not read about it for women (I could be wrong).

I understand how consuming TTC is, I'm on month 18 of TTC my 2nd. How long have you been TTC? I've had months of limiting absolutely everything and some of just doing as I please... sauna, alcohol etc. in 2 weeks wait.

Ultimately you have to do with you feel is right but it's a miserable time and you deserve the break!

There are not a surplus of infants born with neural tube defects in countries like Russia and Finland, where going to the sauna is a normal part of life for everybody.

I go to the sauna and am not worried (I'm currently 19w pregnant after losses and IVF). I don't stay in there for ages like I normally would, I go out and cool down again then go back in. For your core to heat up enough to cause issues you would feel sick, and if you're staying in the sauna past that point in general it's not that good for you.

At 6DPO I would absolutely go and enjoy a spa day, I just wouldn't get to the point where I felt sick from heat. I would also drink in the TWW. It's crap enough as it is, and sitting in a sauna or having a few glasses of wine isn't going to be what makes or breaks getting pregnant for you.

After my transfers I didn't drink, but when trying naturally I did drink during the TWW, because after a while you figure what's the point in abstaining if it's not working anyway. I missed a lot of really nice events because I wasn't drinking during the TWW at the beginning, and looking back I wish I had just relaxed and had the damn cocktails because I'll never be back at them and I didn't get pregnant anyway.

Good luck and try not to stress out too much, the stress isn't worth it.

I decided to go for it. Sick of feeling shit month after month with ttc. I was very careful though. Did some research and found it’s raised core body temperature that is an issue, so I didn’t stay in hot environments long enough for that to happen and I stayed hydrated. When I don’t get pregnant this month, I doubt it will be because of this. Thanks all.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself 😊 and I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you, if it's not this month then hopefully it will be one soon x
