What has happened to my cycles?!

Hello,

I had a miscarriage a year ago and had an ERPC. Since the miscarriage my cycles (which were 29 days clockwork) have changed and some very odd things are happening:

  1. I have a back ache from 1DPO until my period
  2. (The weirdest one) I experience spotting and very bad cramping when I’m due my period but this stops after 3-4 days. There is then a break and my full flow starts about 7 days after my period is due. This brings me to a 20+ luteal phase which I know isn’t possible. If you count the luteal phase from when the cramping and spotting starts it would be a 14-15 day luteal phase.
  3. Ovulation signs (ECWM) starts almost immediately after my full flow ends. This means blood is often mixed with the ECWM. Ovulation is confirmed by LH rise and BBT and is usually on CD9 if I count the full flow as CD1. If I count spotting as CD1 it’s more like CD16 which is similar to my cycles pre miscarriage.

I cannot find anything online which explains what might be happening and I’m worried it’s causing me to be infertile. Both times I’ve been pregnant (I have a DD and one MC) were conceived in one cycle.

Does anyone know what this could be? Or had a similar experience? I’m at my wits end!

Hey there, it sounds like you may have some hormonal issues (probably progesterone) or potentially an issue with your microbiome. I’d recommend getting oestorgen, progesterone and testosterone checked along with thyroid. If that all comes back ok then look into vaginal microbiome, there may be an infection left over from the miscarriage. The doc will do the first test, microbiome would be a private test. (I’m a fertility acupuncturist).

Thank you very much for your reply!

I have had all the blood tests and everything is coming back fine. I also had a hystersocopy last year as thought it was Ashermans. I’ll explore the microbiome tests. Is this the EMMA test?

Hi yep the Emma test. Great that you’ve had the gysteroscopy to rule Asherman’s out. If the micro biome is negative it may be worth talking to a private fertility doc about progesterone after ovulation to try and balance you out - this is often the cause of spotting.

Hi @123Lou456
I don’t really have any advice because my cycles have been completely messed up too since a miscarriage last year! My daughter and the MC were both conceived first cycle too and since then it’s been a chemical or nothing…!

I also get spotting before my period for 2-4 days. It pretends to be slowing down then boom AF! I’ve also been told it could be a progesterone issue… but last few cycles I’ve been spotting throughout my luteal phase. Last cycle I didn’t but this cycle I’m spotting on CD9 so now I’ve no idea!!

I don’t have the early ovulation and my luteal phase is only 12 days but I hear you with the completely different cycles post MC… so weird!
