Hi,
Been TTC for over 1 year and have had 2 miscarriage in that time. We already have a little boy who is 3. Have had bloods done at the doctor's and all came back normal. Does anyone have a recommendation for a fertility specialist in the North West? We live in Cumbria and accept we will probably need to travel.

Any recommendations would be great.

You need a functional nutrition practitioner! After having my DD we decided to TTC another child. A year later we conceived but I miscarried around 6.5 weeks. We had three successive early term MCs (4 total in less than 2 yrs, all pre-7.5 wks gestation). We saw a private endocrinologist, a private Ob-Gyn, then after the 3rd MC we qualified for the recurrent MC clinic at St Mary’s Paddington. All tests came back normal, no one could find any explanation. Then a friend (who’d had 2 DCs thru IVF) recommended a functional medicine team she was seeing to try to find a diagnosis for a strange and life-limiting set of symptoms she had. They were, she said, like medical detectives working on all the tough cases. I went, they started discussing gut health and all sorts of things I thought unrelated. They put me on an elimination diet. Within 10 days, I had 80-90% of my energy back, skin looked better, etc etc. It turns out I’d been suffering with some gut issues and the related systemic inflammation prevented me from being able to sustain a pregnancy. (Turns out it’s known but not widely communicated that if your body is in a state of systemic inflammation, or heightened stress of any kind, it will prioritise essential life processes at the expense of “nice-to-haves” like reproduction). They told me ‘if you keep working on your gut [health], then we bet in 6 months time, you’ll be pregnant again and able to sustain it’. Six months to the day of that appointment, I was doing a pregnancy test, which not only turned out positive, but turned out to be my DS, now 10 yrs old.
I was so amazed to discover what could be achieved by fixing one’s health mostly through diet (& a few other tweaks) that I went back and retrained in functional nutrition. I always wonder how many £10,000s of pounds could be saved from fertility clinics if ppl only knew what they could achieve on their own!
