What’s going on with my cycle?

Hello, and sorry for the ignorant questions. I am just hoping for some insight from someone who’s more knowledgeable about fertility. I’m 35 and have been trying to get pregnant for a few months. This month, I didn’t have any noticeable egg white cervical mucus, but did an ovulation test which showed an LH surge. My period was due yesterday and, when it didn’t arrive, I excitedly took a pregnancy test. It was negative. I tested again this morning and again, negative. My periods are usually as regular as clockwork and I’ve got all the usual signs that I’m about to come on- painful boobs, spots… but no period. After a cursory google, I’m worried I may not have ovulated this month. Is this common? I don’t think I’ve ever missed a period in my life so it seems like a very cruel coincidence that my cycle would go haywire just as I’m trying to conceive. I have been pretty stressed so perhaps this is the cause? Any thoughts would be very welcome. Thank you! X

Hi @sweetbabyangel I've been in this position before, I'm 38 and when I first started TTC after a couple months my AF was a day late, and I am always like clockwork to the exact day. But my AF just decided to show up 4 days late for no apparent reason! So cruel isn't it!
It is possible that you ovulated later than you think, did you continue testing LH levels after the peak or stop? I think you can ovulate up to 24 hours after your peak as well....
I think the only way to confirm ovulation for sure is by testing bbt, or with a 21 day progesterone blood test. Fingers crossed you ovulated later 🤞🏼

@Firsttime2023 thank you so much for replying. That’s such a good point. No, I didn’t continue checking my LH level as it seemed to surge on the 14th day of my cycle so just assumed it was that day I ovulated as I usually have a 28 day cycle. Thank you again!

Hi @sweetbabyangel did your AF show?

sweetbabyangel · 14/02/2025 07:52

@Firsttime2023 yes!! Three days late! 😅Thank you so much for your reassurance. I’d convinced myself I hadn’t ovulated and was in total catastrophizing mode! X
