False positive

Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had a false positive pregnancy test. This happened to me around 4 years ago on a digital. I got one positive "pregnant 1-2" and one negative. Nothing came of it. I did read that there is a less than 1% chance this can happen so just thought i was in that percentage.

Fast forward to now and we have been ttc. I have done a previous post about being 17dpo and getting negative tests. I still have not had a period but was suffering from ovary pain and really bad cramps plus hair loss.

My positive ovulation test was around 3rd December (solid smiley face on clearblue) plus I had ewcm and everything suggested its time. I stopped pregnancy testing Christmas day when still getting negative pregnancy tests.

Wednesday of this week i go to the GP because of these pains I am having and to discuss the results of a blood test . She does a urine hpt and this is the result. Tells me congratulations and books me in with the midwife. I have an early scan tomorrow.

Honestly though I think it's incorrect. I don't feel pregnant at all whatsoever all I have are these severe pains. No bleeding . No nausea (which in itself is unusual as all my previous pregnancies i have had hyperemesis and even almost terminated one due to how sick I was and being unable to care for my existing children. It is THAT severe IV drips hospital stays etc). Is it possible to have hyperemesis all other times and then this time not ?

I'm being so melodramatic saying I must have cancer or something equally as sinister to produce a positive result and have no symptoms. This sharp pains don't feel normal either nor did the GP seem concerned.

I know I didn't ovulate any other time as I haven't had a positive ovulation test since 3rd December nor have I had ewcm . I've had thrush twice since then which isn't like me either.

I just don't feel like this is accurate and there must be something wrong with me that I have produced a false positive as it has happened to me before.

False positive

With my first pregnancy I had no symptoms whatsoever other than really bad cramps. I didn’t feel pregnant at all, no nausea, wasn’t really off my food, didn’t feel tired etc. I really didn’t believe it until I had an early scan to prove I was pregnant.

If you’re really unsure and are able to then you could book a private scan for 6-8 weeks but if the tests are saying you’re pregnant and the gp tests suggests pregnant too then I wouldn’t believe it to be false.

I have only had one positive test at the GP. I was getting all negative pregnancy tests at home right up until Christmas day which would have been 20 odd days past ovulation.

I did have a false positive once about 4 years ago on a digital test.

So I would be around 9 or 10 weeks pregnant by now but I was getting all negative tests right up until Christmas day. I've not ovulated again since 3rd December as all ovulation tests were negative and I've had no period either . I have a scan tomorrow at 1.30pm at the EPU but I just don't think it will show anything. I worry there's something else amiss

I haven't had a single positive pregnancy test with at home tests. Not one. Only positive was this one from the doctors on Wednesday.

See now this is all interesting as I've been getting the same cramps as well currently would be 7/8 dpo testing negative I know it's really early as well

I was 50dpo before that positive so I have no idea about so early on. I didn't have any cramps or anything until about 2 weeks ago when I'd be 7 weeks pregnant (if it's even real) it's so strange.

I know some people say implantation cramps possibly for you so early?

Could it be an ectopic pregnancy? I think it's possible for you not to show a positive pregnancy test in that situation x

tiffxxx · 26/01/2025 18:04

@Gingernut1989 it could possibly be but I think I had a chemical pregnancy at the start of January as I was getting all positives on every test I did then took a few days off testing then tested again and it was throwing all negatives

tiffxxx · 26/01/2025 18:11

@Gingernut1989 I didn't even think of implantation cramps

Gingernut1989 · 26/01/2025 18:23

@tiffxxx that must be upsetting getting hopes up with the positives to then get negatives. I definitely feel weird about this one. There's no way I am nearly 10 weeks pregnant I just don't feel it at all plus why would I have had negative pregnancy tests all through December .

Have you done a test since Wednesday? X

2petrabbits · 26/01/2025 18:52

@Gingernut1989 I’m sorry this has been such a rollercoaster since Christmas. Are you able to get a box of tests from Amazon and do a few to put your mind at ease? As you said, false positives are unlikely. I hope this is the real thing for you ❤️

Gingernut1989 · 26/01/2025 19:04

@2petrabbits thank you 😊. I've got this scan tomorrow at 1.30pm so really hoping it's good news !
