IVF or wait?

I am nearly 41. Got pregnant the first time after 4 months TTC but had a loss. I have been trying for 6 months after but no luck.

Should we try for a little longer or start the IVF treatment?

Have already approached fertility clinic they said could try IVF. We have enough money for one round but it will have some impact on us. Tests came back fine with good AMH and follicle count but I notice my lutual phase is sometimes a little on the short side.

Wait or not to wait......?

At 41 if you know you definitely want a baby, I wouldn’t wait

MocktailMe · 21/01/2025 20:47

At 41 IVF now. Don't wait.

If you want kids, don't wait. Even with IVF, the chance of it working decreases with age.

Fertility Acupuncturist here - At 40 you have a less than 5% chance of getting pregnant with each month. It’s a sad reality. I’m very sorry to hear of your loss.

If you are desperate to have a baby I would be starting to go down the IVF route and in the meantime, if you can afford it, start acupuncture. Are you doing your body temps for ovulation?

yup I agree do ivf, with a good amh you'll be able to save loads of months of trying by selecting the strongest embryos. I'm 39, have had two spontaneous pregnancies and MCs, and 3 IVF rounds so far (I have DOR and v low AMH). You increase your chance significantly by doing it.

I wouldn’t wait, as unfortunately the biological clock is ticking and ovarian reserve tends to decline with time.

Bumbers · 02/07/2025 20:48

Don't wait! if you wait 6 months and nothing happens and then struggle with IVF you would kick yourself, even though it might not have made any difference. it may also take a while to actually get to the stage of doing IVF

Can you kindly share more information on this please. I’m 36 and struggling to conceive my second. Been trying for 6 months plus, and really considering if I should go the IVF route or wait a little longer

Your eggs are 41 years old. You have a much higher chance of success with those than 42, 43 or 44 year old eggs.

I’m 40 and giving it a few months naturally. We fell pregnant first month but it was a chemical pregnancy. I believe IVF would mean you could avoid going through a chemical, which at our age are much more common due to the decrease in egg quality.

IVF absolutely

Sara1003 · 03/07/2025 19:23

Thanks for you comments. Going to go ahead with it. Was hoping it might just happen but no luck.
