Low progesterone

My bloods have just come back and after having a day 21 progesterone check done, it's confirmed that I have low progesterone.

Anyone who has also been diagnosed with this, what are the next steps? Will I be prescribed progesterone to take to help with my shorter luteal phase and to increase uterine lining?

How low was it? I got 8.8 and the doctor told me to try naturally for a few cycles.
I am trying healthy diets and i take a million supplements.

Low 21 day progesterone means you're not ovulating so they might think about clomiphene.

brycequinny · 21/01/2025 15:26

@AegeanPebble it was 6!

They also did an internal transvaginal which showed that I had ovulated. I'm glad that I am because then hopefully we can just focus on the progesterone issue

I'm in the same boat - mine just came back 4.4 😕feeling a bit dispirited. Did you come off contraception recently? I came off the pill last March (after having been on it for nearly 20 years) and my periods are still not 100% regular, so hoping it's just a sign of my body taking a while to readjust. Waiting to see what the Dr. says next.

Just to throw out there, I got recently diagnosed with thyroid antibodies. While my thyroid hormones are normal the antibodies can cause low progesterone. Check your thyroid and ask for the antibodies test too!

I came off the pill nearly three years ago because it didn't agree with me.

My periods took a little while to go back to normal. When is your next doctors appointment?

@AegeanPebble it was 6!

Was this pmol/L? Mine was borderline low as below 30 pmol/L (30 confirms ovulation I believe but it’s possible to have ovulated if lower). I’ve been taking supplements and generally just trying to slow down and relax and mine has come up over 30 now. I think cortisol and stress impacts progesterone so definitely one to think about

Muddysocks1 · 23/01/2025 07:57

Particularly vitamin b6 and c

brycequinny · 23/01/2025 08:07

@Muddysocks1 it was 21 nmol/L so 6 ng/dL.

Thanks for this. I am taking B6 and vitamin C so I was quite disappointed with the results. Waiting to hear what the next steps are

Ah that makes more sense.
Mine was 28 then 25 then 35. To be fair - it’s notoriously difficult to test at exactly the right time so I think 21 day progesterone is meant to be taken slightly loosely. Worth testing again to see.

Check you’re taking enough of the vits. I think it’s 750mg vitamin c for example.

Hope you can get some more support with it 🤞🏻

After next week's pelvic ultrasound (my GP has been giving me all the checks to make sure nothing is wrong from a conception PoV). Yeah, I've heard it's quite common for periods taking a while to go back to normal... hopefully it's just that!

No it is ng/L
The explanation by the lab is 1.83 to 23.9 ng/L for the luteal phase. I think 1.83 is the minimum that indicates ovulation.
The doctors want to see over 12 though.

Just an update, the consultant prescribed me Cyclogest for when I get a positive pregnancy test. I have been prescribed 3 months worth
