Hi all,

Apologies if this is a daft question but how do you go about testing ovulation and what is the best test to use?

I was very fortunate to fall pregnant first cycle with my DS but that was 4 years ago and I'm now 37 with one cycle already unsuccessful so reckon I'm going to need more help and patience this time.

When do you test ovulation- is it throughout all of the first 2 weeks if your cycle or just around the time you get EWCM?

Thanks x

Hi first of all id download an app to help you I use Premom I'm currently using MomMed strips but I want to switch to the easy@home strips and I start testing after my period. Every body tests differently but I test twice a day. When testing it's best to hold your urine for up to 4 hours well so I've been told and only sip a drink if you need a drink in between holding your urine. The app will help a lot as you can log your strip results on the app.

Unless you have very irregular cycles, its normally fairly clear when you are ovulating, but I know some people prefer to use OPK's. I ovulate, but never saw a peak on urine OPK's, so used a re-usable, saliva type. Not widely know about in the UK though.
I was also on an app called ovia, but there is Flo and many others. You log your cycle, symptoms etc and it helps to predict your next cycle, peak time etc. I'd also recommend a 2nd hand copy of 'It starts with an egg'. Worth a read. Best of luck.

Thanks both. I really don't think I could handle testing twice a day with my work pattern.

I've heard about that book quite a bit so will check that out. Thanks both!

I usually ovulate between day 13 and 17, so I tend to start testing LH around day 10.

i work from home so will usually do morning and evening, until it starts darkening and then sometimes I’ll do more during the day.. more because I find it fascinating than anything but it’s probably a waste of tests! But it can be easy to miss it if you get a short spike.
