Trying for a baby

Hello , i am on microgynon 30 contraceptive pill ( i take a week break inbetween packets) . I have been on it since 2016

Me and my partner wanted to start trying for a baby and just wondered how long did it take people to fall pregnant?

I used to be on the same contraceptive, for 15 years, I came off it for a year to get my body back to normal and it was like going through puberty again. All I looked out for were signs of ovulation. We conceived within the first month of trying, though obviously this was a year after coming off the pill.

What steps did you take to come off? Do you come off cold turkey or do you have to wean your body off? My gp said both was an option for me but i dont see how i can wean my self off i feel like just stopping makes more sense

I just took as normal, had the withdrawal bleed, then didn't start a new pack. Made sense to me to just do it like that. Not sure how you would wear yourself off.

Four months.

i was on micorgynon for 15 consecutive years - finished my pack, had a bleed, then didn't start a new pack and i was lucky enough to have a positive pregnancy test 5 weeks later, that was my first baby.
I went back on microgynon after birth and was on it for 2 years, finished my pack, had a bleed, had a natural period 4 weeks later, then a positive test 4 weeks after that, currently 17wks pregnant.

So cycle 1 for baby 1 and cycle 2 for baby 2.

I am aware that I am very lucky and this is not the case for all. Age 31 and 33.

Thank you i am 27 . I feel like ive been on it so long it may take my body a while to conceive. Im not going to get my hope up of it being instant but im also worriee being on it so long may affect how long it takes me to conceive

try not to worry, everyone is different. you'll find lots of anecdotal evidence of people on here who are like me and being on the pill made no difference, you'll find others who took a long time.
Its normal for couples who havent been on contraception to take 12-18m to fall pregnant so try to keep that in mind.

Mumtobehopefully · 15/01/2025 16:11

Nearly 2 weeks ago i forgot to take 3 pills in a row , ive had negative tests but i keeps playing in my mind because of that that maybe i cant concieve i know that sound stupid but im a bit scared incase i cant have a baby.

my doctors advised me to continue taking the pill but since i have had terrible stomach pains and smells are making me nauseous

i would finish your pack as normal then just not start the next one, have regular sex all thorugh the month and see what happens. The only way to check your fertility is to try.

Mumtobehopefully · 15/01/2025 16:18

These are the test i done , i thought i could see a faint line on the pink dye ones ( they are two different tests) but i think it was just hopeful thinking

@Mumtobehopefully i came off this pill in October after being on it continuously for around 15 years! I finished my packet, had my withdrawal and just didn’t continue - what I wasn’t prepared for was feeling unwell for a month or so!

im now on cycle 3 of trying :) x

GLC789 · 15/01/2025 16:38

Same pill from 16 - 35 years of age. That's years!

Came off pill in June 2023. Started using Natural Cycles to track.

Didn't ovulate June
Ovulation started July
Pregnant early August 2023.

Healthy baby girl born mid April 2024.

Good luck OP!! X

GLC789 · 15/01/2025 16:40

Just to add. I simply finished a pack and stopped. You don't need to wean off. But I'd highly recommend finishing current pack.

Mumtobehopefully · 15/01/2025 17:00

I will continue to finish the pack i am on. Thank you so much girls i feel alot more confident now

Oh my gosh yes. The hormones have been crazy. I too feel like I'm going through puberty again. Came off this pill in June 2024. Still tracking my cycle to see if it stabilises. Been wild, I actually miss the pill because of how in stable my hormones were and how regular my cycle was.

This is pretty much my story exactly - just eleven months later for me so we’re expecting in March.
