Is it too late?

Hello
I have a 7 year old and I'm now just turned 40. The plan was always to have more kids but sadly ended up getting divorced before my last was even 1. Now have a new partner and been trying 6 months. I got pregnant last month but miscarried xmas week just short of 6 weeks.

I'm.now feeling is it ever going to happen at this age and at 40 is it just too late now anyway?

I'm in the exact same position, my DD is 6 and I've had 4 mc over the past 3 years. I've just turned 40 and think I'm going to keep trying for another year but don't want the gap to keep getting bigger.

Some people are just starting their families at 40 so don't think it's too old.

No. I got married at 40 and went on to have two kids. Several of my friends had babies in their 49s, one at 45 and another at 46 (all conceived naturally).
But it will most likely be harder this time, but keep trying. If you have another miscarriage or do not get pregnant in the next six months then explore your options.

Thanks for the replies! Life has thrown some curveballs over the last few years and ideally would have liked 3 kids with around 2 years between each but life didn't quite work like that.

I feel like this is my last chance and the stress of that is probably not helping my chances. I was so excited.to get the positive test last month after around 6 months ttc so it felt devastating when I started bleeding and made me feel hopeless about my chances.

Absolutely not too late. Was 39 when I got pregnant, 2 months before my 40th. Didn’t do anything special beyond tracking ovulation. My best friend had her 1st at 41 and 2nd at 43. Is it simple for everyone… of course not, but there are dozens of threads on MN started by people who have found themselves pregnant, either intentionally, or accidentally, over 40! It’s very common. Best of luck x

I'm 42 and 29 weeks pregnant with DD2, it's definitely not too late.

Conceived naturally, low risk results for combined screening and NIPT, all going really well up till now.

@MellowLion it isn't too late but I'd recommend getting your FSH and AMH tested and having a scan to check your AFC. This will give you a sense of time remaining as there is high fertility variance among women by 40.

Defo not too late. I have friends who didnt start their families until they were 40. I am also trying for another baby and am also 40.

Finding ways to manage the stress and anxiety would be helpful for sure. I know the ol' "relax and it will happen" mantra is the TTC equivalent of telling someone to calm down. But if you can keep positive and busy / distracted, it could help to improve your chances! Xx
