Trying to conceive after desogestrel

Hi guys

I stopped taking desogestrel (progestogen only pill) on 30th December 2024. I’ve had mild cramps in the days since stopping the pill but no bleeding/spotting as of yet.

I am trying to work out what’s now going to happen with my cycles and mixed with the excitement of trying to conceive, I’ve been taking ovulation strip tests since 2nd January. The tests seem to be very up and down since starting testing, some days darker than others, then back to faint again.

Is it common to have LH surges after coming off the pill and these tests are just showing my body regulating its hormones, or do you think these tests combined with mild cramps are my body starting to try and ovulate?

I’m very impatient if you cant already tell😂 and new to all of this so any advice is welcome!

Hi, I’m similar to you! So I came off the mini pill on the 14th dec and had a withdrawal bleed 19th-21st dec. I’ve had on and off cramping and around the 1st Jan had EWCM but my ovulation strips were still not showing a test line darker than control line (tho they had got darker over the day or two) so I do think that mixed with the mucus was me ovulating. I’ve currently got stronger period cramps so I think it’s AF on the way for me. I have seen some people get pregnant straight away but others take longer.

hopefully we catch on quick! :)

Thank you for your response! Interested to hear how you get on. I’ve continued tracking with ovulation strips and some days it’s strong at random points then completely fades by the evening and stays weak for a few days then appears a bit stronger again but no “peaks” or “positives” as such. Really can’t work it out. Haven’t had any withdrawal bleeding as of yet.

I’ve had cramps, headaches, tender breasts for the last 5 days perhaps but hard to tell if that’s symptoms of coming period, hormonal changes from stopping the pill or potentially conceiving.

Just need to work on my patience and see what happens!

When I went on it due to my periods it took since months to kick in so I would allow 6 months to go back to normal.

So I ended up having a period the 11th - 15th Jan, so at the moment it seems to have gone as google suggests. So I’ll be started to track soon and see if I get a positive peak on the OPK. I know for some there cycle length changes and others don’t have a withdrawal bleed as such. You’re still within a good window tho as it’s only been two weeks since stopping and my period returned bang on 4 weeks. It’s so hard the wait tho!!

Thank you for the update. Still nothing for me as of yet, did have another raise in LH, potentially a peak in the past 3 days but could be anyone’s guess! A bit all over the place I think, but will see what happens. Hopefully once I’ve had a period I know roughly where I’m at! Good luck to you!🫶🏼

Thank you! Tbh I was glad when my period arrived because now I can track properly (even tho I’m still yet to have my peak!) fingers crossed for you x

Hi, not sure if this is any help as I am not actively TTC. However, I came off desogestrel 24th August 2024. I stopped because I had missed a few pills when I was on holiday and 2 weeks ish later I had sore boobs, nausea and really bad heart burn. Me and my partner joked that I was pregnant so naturally I took a test, which threw a spanner in the works when there was a faint line. 15 tests later and a visit to the doctors it was confirmed not to be the case. But I haven’t taken my pill since. I wanted to give my body a break after 5 years on desogestrel with no periods. Prior to this I was on the combined pill for approx. 5 years.

The nurse told me it would be 2-3 months for my body to get back into a cycle. My first period was 28th Sept 2024 which lasted 5 days. Then another 29th October 2024. But then no period until 15th December and I am currently on CD 38 and no sign yet. Like I say we aren’t actively trying to conceive however if it happens, we would be happy. We have just moved into our first home just before Christmas and I’ve had a lot going on at work so I think that might have knocked my cycle off a bit, or maybe it’s just not ‘regular’ yet - who knows! I am not going to track ovulation etc, however I am using flo to track my period and according to that I am due on today- no signs yet though!

@GD0305 thank you for that, that is helpful to know. Everyone is different and it seems to affect everyone differently so hard to know quite what’s happening with your body until things regulate. I do know that I bled for the first 6 months of taking desogestrel so it could take me a while to regulate after stopping. Hopefully you are back to normal soon and all the best!
