Surgery and AF tomorrow and no sign of AF. Help me

since dc2, I’ve a 12 day luteal phase. Today is 12dpo. If you’d have asked me yesterday and the day before (10 and 11 dpo) I’d have said no way I’m pregnant as I’d had some brown and pink tinged cm, typical before Af. But today, nothing and temp still high. Thought ah well will probably start spotting in the day, and nope.

took a test late afternoon and stark white.

what do we think slightly longer than usual luteal phase? Surely if I was pregnant it would’ve shown on a test, even this afternoon?

its a gynaecology surgery (to check for a polyp) and obviously I’ll test tomorrow but I’m a bit worried? If I had the surgery in that area and I was obviously it would be the end but equally don’t want to delay the surgery if there is no need.

would it show 12dpo late afternoon aka day of/ day before period due?

Surely they can do a blood test or urine test using one of the fast test machines at the hospital to confirm your status. It takes about ten mins for the urine test machine Just tell them.

Newhi · 01/01/2025 19:31

They ask me to do a pregnancy test for pretty much any trip to the hospital, so don’t worry they will definitely do one tomorrow. Sometimes periods are delayed when you’re stressed, are you worried about the surgery tomorrow.

Very stupid of me, I didn’t think of the blood test machines. I just thought they had the urine strips which aren’t as sensitive

A little bit, normally for me it would delay ovulation rather than the luteal phase

I’d test again first thing in the morning before you go to the hospital

Oh yeah I will but I guess I’m a bit ahh, did I calculate ovulation right, sometimes people don’t get a bfp till a few days past their period etc

guess I’m hoping I am to a) escape surgery and b) because we’ve been ttc for a while now

In my experience they do a routine pregnancy test before any sort of gynae procedure, but you could do a test tomorrow morning.

As an aside, I was asked to provide a sample for a pregnancy test a few months ago before a procedure. They were being quite insistent until I reminded them that at my advanced age (60) the chances of pregnancy were definitely zero Grin

Saschka · 01/01/2025 19:52

Every time I’ve had gynae surgery they’ve done a pregnancy test. Including when I was having evacuation of retain products of conception. I had to explain again what surgery I was having and why, and so did the gynae SpR, and the day surgery nurse still wasn’t happy.

They done blood or urine? I know urine isn’t as sensitive

If you're having a GA or sedation they will do a HCG test before.

Katrinawaves · 01/01/2025 20:07

I imagine if you tell them you are TTC and period is late that they will delay the surgery whether or not the pregnancy test is positive just to be on the safe side.

Itsbrtnybish · 01/01/2025 20:17

It’s so strange, I think I have that heavy ish feeling like before Af, but all the blood tinged cm has gone, and even when checking cervical position there is no pink or red cm or anything which there normally would be if I was due on. CP is moving all around all over the place

BUT surely if I was pregnant it would show the day before af is due even if it wasn’t fmu. I used super sensitive strips from Amazon too that say up to 5 days before missed period

That’s reassuring, I’ll definitely be having either or,

although when I did have sedation for a colonoscopy they didn’t check

Hospitals only use the cheap strip tests in a urine sample. They won't do a blood test to check for HCG. The cheap tests aren't as sensitive as a FRER but I know the FRER aren't easy to get hold of quickly these days.

If you are absolutely certain that you're 12dpo, a HPT should show a VVFL in the morning.

Even a private hospital? Thing is I guess I could’ve ovulated a day later but still v v strange that all the pink tinged cm has gone now.

ill test first thing but if my temp is still high then I know af won’t be coming that day. My usual pattern is a drop in temp in the morning then af will come afternoon but the days before I do tend to get spotting, pink cm which is what I thought I was leading up to with my previous cm.

for the past 6 cycles, my period has been 12 days from a positive opk. It looks like I have a surge in the am, then ovulate in the PM and bbt slowly climbs

if it’s private why don’t you just reschedule for 2 weeks time when you will either know for sure or be mid cycle?

if it comes to it I will but I’d rather not if I’m definitely not pregnant, as it would just push me into next months cycle.

ill explain tomorrow and see what they say, and obviously do a test first thing

if anyone wants to wish baby dust, feel free lol

Private hospitals still only use basic strip tests in urine.

I had a GA in a private hospital when I was TTC and I was around 10dpo at the time. Despite telling the pre op medical team my concerns, they still only relied on a basic urine test.

You are clearly very anxious about the possibility of being pregnant and I completely understand. The only option you really have is to postpone the procedure.

Well that’s disappointing of them isn’t it.

i am a bit anxious because obviously IF im early doors pregnancy then the surgery would basically be an abortion/ cause a miscarriage. Basically my body normally follows a script and this time (of course this time) is when it’s deviated from the script.

we’ll see tomorrow with temping and a test. I can’t really call, because they weren’t open today and tomorrow I’m there literally doors open, so I’ll just have to explain when I get there, see what they say, if I get a temp dip or a bfp then at least I know for certain

But I guess the central question is, if I really am 12dpo at the earliest tomorrow would a test definitely be able to pick it up

Honestly OP if your period doesn’t come tomorrow before you go in, even if the pregnancy test is negative, I think you will always wonder if you were in fact pregnant and lost the pregnancy as a result of the procedure. In your shoes (and having struggled to TTC myself in the past) I wouldn’t be comfortable.

Yeah you’re probably right!

I think only really a bbt dip or af starting would set my mind at ease.

bodies eh? So unpredictable

Bitter sweet I imagine?
Focus on next month once your surgery is behind you. Sending baby dust for February!
