Help - really confused - CP but still getting BFPs

Hi ladies!!

Looking for some thoughts... had a weird rollercoaster in my December cycle where I was testing faint BFP a few days before AF due then got 1-2 weeks on CB digi at 14DPO, then negative again a few days later and then positive again and with varying faint positives on different brands of stick tests (FRER, cheapies etc). AF arrived 6 days late and lasted 5 days (2 days longer than usual). I stopped bleeding on Christmas Day and have just started some light bleeding again tonight which never normally happens so I decided to do a test... and got a BFP! So took a few to be sure and definitely a BFP but not very strong considering I'd now be almost 6 weeks?!! What the heck could this mean? Is there a chance this could be an ectopic? I had all the usual AF cramps, probably a little more uncomfortable than usual to be honest and am not having any other symptoms or discomfort to suggest anything going on or that I am actually pregnant. Do I need to go to A&E tomorrow or can this wait til Monday do you think?? Argh! Weirdly wish I hadn't done the bloody tests now!

For reference, these are my tests from 10 days ago (the day before I started bleeding)

I would suggest you contact GP/ EPU tomorrow morning.
If you are 6 weeks they can do an early scan and see if there's anything going on.

An ectopic would be my concern too.

All the best x

I've just realised it's Sunday!!
Call 111 and get so some advice x

Your lines have actually progressed which would be unusual in a chemical. Something very similar happened to me, I assumed I was having a chemical or ectopic and it turned out to be heavy implantation bleeding and the pregnancy was fine - not to get your hopes up that this is happening in your case but it is not impossible.

EPU is unlikely to scan you until you are 6 weeks. I think I would continue to test every couple of days to see if the lines are getting lighter or darker (take it with a pinch of salt though and don't get hung up on perfect progression) and contact either your GP or 111 if you're really concerned. They'll refer you to EPU when they're able to scan you or you can self refer.

I hope this has a good resolution for you 🤞

Thanks @TealPanda and @YorkshirePeridot the light bleeding has continued today and I've been having some mild/dull pain on left side and lower back so called 111 who referred me to out of hours who've advised me to go to A&E to get scanned today to rule out ectopic. I'd be technically 6 weeks tomorrow. She said she could refer me to EPU and book a scan but given the irregular bleeding want to scan me today to rule out ectopic given how quickly they can turn out badly. I'm not sure what to expect to be honest. I'm not hopeful it's viable but I really hope it's not complicated and requires any sort of procedure!

A&E is busy so I think I might be here a while!

Just been seen by consultant who checked me out and is happy I’m not in immediate danger of a rupturing ectopic. She’s taken urine sample and said they’ll wait for the bloods to come back and then likely book me to come back for a scan in the next day or 2. Apparently they don’t have the facility to scan on the day out of hours. So think I just need to wait another half hour then I should be able to go.

@MummyV2021 I'm glad you didn't delay and getting checked out ASAP especially with the mild pains.

Hope you get seen soon and get some answers x

Ok that's reassuring. Hope you're ok.

Just a little update... I ended up being in A&E for 6 bloody hours waiting for the blood test results! Weirdly the urine sample they dip tested was negative - not sure how it changed to negative so quickly?! But the blood test showed elevated HCG (they didn't say what the levels were and I'm now kicking myself for not asking) and no sign of infection or anything. So they've booked me in for a scan tomorrow morning to see what's going on. All a bit strange and I'm still confused by these flip-flopping tests! I guess we'll see what happens with the scan tomorrow and go from there!

Thanks for being here for me today 🥰 it can be lonely going through this sort of thing when not many people know we're TTC

6 hours! That's insane!
Interesting about the urine test. But the bloods are more sensitive and can actually quantify HCG.

I assume the scan will be with EPU in which case you'll have a much better explanation as to what's going on. Fingers crossed you get some clarity x

YorkshirePeridot · 29/12/2024 23:38

Thanks for keeping us updated, good thing you've been seen even though sitting around in A&E is no fun! Good luck with tomorrow's scan.

MummyV2021 · 30/12/2024 12:00

Morning ladies!! Been for my scan this morning and they confirmed a complete miscarriage. Womb lining is back to normal and uterus fully closed. Also did another pregnancy test which was negative so they're happy there's no pregnancy hiding where it shouldn't be. The additional bleed was probably just my uterus getting rid of anything else in there. Obviously still sad but was the best outcome for today. I can move on now and get back to TTC. Not going to track this cycle as it's probably going to be all over the place and just see what happens

@MummyV2021 sending lots of hugs.
It's is the best outcome possible if there is such a thing in this situation. Good there was no concern (ectopic). And our bodies are amazing at dealing with it and moving on. Look after yourself and wish you the best with your next cycle x

MummyV2021 · 30/12/2024 19:43

@TealPanda thanks lovely 🥰 I definitely feel like I finally got some closure today! Here's to a less eventful cycle this month!!

I'm so sorry you've experienced this but I'm also glad you've got closure and this was as gentle as it could be. Good luck with ttc ❤️
