Missed period BFN

Just a little moan. Six months TTC, first missed period on Tuesday, tested today but got a negative.

I'm 40 so very "realistic" and trying not to get my hopes up too much each month. But I definitely did this time and now feel so let down.

I came off Mirena eight months ago and have had clockwork periods which I saw as a positive.

Now I'm immediately worrying about peri etc. 😥

I Don’t know about you, but this is quite a stressful and virus filled time of year! I was in the same situation as you (5 days late!) and my period finally came yesterday. I’ve put it down to bugs and business knocking things out a little. Hope you either start testing positive or your period shows up soon.

Thanks for the solidarity 🙏. I have had a chest infection the past ten days and did wonder might that have affected things.

A chest infection and its original cause would definitely be enough to knock you out a few days. I’d guess that you are not actually due yet.

Sorry to hear that sounds tough 😢 I have had regular periods since I was a teenager and even Covid only delayed it by a couple of days. Last month my period didn't show. Negative tests galore and my period ended up being 13 days late. Never happened before and really hope it won't again as it's torture whether you are hoping for pregnancy or hoping not to be pregnant. Everyone is different but a chest infection can probably delay ovulation. As far as I know it's ovulation that is delayed in longer cycles not the second half of your cycle. Maybe look into BBT charting as the worst part of a 'late' period is not knowing if and when you ovulated as a delayed ovulation might mean your period isn't actually late yet. I don't test for ovulation (or for pregnancy unless very late like last month) but I regretted it when my period didn't show and I couldn't pinpoint ovulation.

Are you tracking ovulation? As PPs have said, there are lots of bugs and stress around this time of year which might be delaying ovulation a bit. I completely get your frustration though. I'm 42, currently at cycle 37(!) ttc#3 and I hate the cycles when we've got the timings bang on and yet still nothing....Good luck!

Thanks for all the kind words. I have been tracking BBT and testing but decided not to in December with the madness of everything, and when my period didn't show I got a flurry of thinking I'd be one of those stories where it happens as soon as you stop "trying"!

No sign yet but I'll definitely put it down to being under the weather for now and just see how things go the next month.
