Transvaginal scans affecting getting pregnant?

Hi

I'm booked in for a transvaginal fertility scan today, it's pre-ovulation and it's to get a rough ovulation window (I think it may be around Saturday but can't be sure as my cycles only just returned since coming off the pill!)

This may be a very silly question, but I've read studies on how the lube used during the scan can affects sperm/kill sperm - I think something to do with creating a toxic environment inside the vagina?

I'm worried because if I am set to ovulate on Saturday, then we will only be able to DTD tonight and tomorrow night

Can the lube still affect new sperm even 24 hours later?

Anyone have any experience with having transvaginal ultrasounds around the build up to ovulation time?

Thanks Blush

If that were the case then I guess every woman having ovulation monitoring would be in the same position and wouldn't have success. (Which we know isn't the case!) I always say no matter what you go searching for on the Internet you'll find horror stories. I think our brains are naturally more drawn to those than the positives for some reason. Instead, try searching for all of the success stories of those having similar tests, I'm sure you'll find many😊 Good luck OP! x

This is exaclty what I was trying to tell myself! I know there's quite a lot of research based on lube during sex but surely it isn't going to affect sperm the day later, but I'm an over thinker to my core 😁 thank you!

They will more than likely use optilube for an internal ultrasound. You can google for ingredients im sure. I work in operating theatres and its used for a lot of things including ultrasound.

Yes exactly! I'm sure it'll have cleared your system quickly enough. And if there is any truth to it, it's not like you're having copious amounts of the stuff.

Sorry - but you're overthinking it

@momofonexo if it helps I had an internal ultrasound last month and the nurse told me to go home and DTD that night as I was about to ovulate. No mention of the lube affecting anything! ❤️

Well I went to my scan .. and the lady in front of me ended up having a medical emergency bless her 😔 so they called an ambulance and closed the clinic. No more availability for a week so no scan atm for me!

Just to put your mind at ease, I had a fertility scan this month for similar reasons.. I’ve also had a BFP this month so definitely no adverse effects from the probe / gel used!
