Too old for IUI?

It's my first time starting a thread so we'll just see how this goes.
I'll keep it short and sweet. I'm 40, in a same-sex marriage and we have always wanted children. We had our first round of IUI back in September but it ended in a chemical pregnancy. We are starting our second try this month.
We've agreed that if this second round of IUI doesn't work then we'll save a bit more and go through IVF.
Has anyone gone through IUI at 40? Or even if you are younger, what was your experience like with IUI? I just want this to work so badly.

Boosting for you. I’m 30 but will be starting the IUI process after my partner and I (lesbian relationship) get married.

Has your consultant done a review/ fertility tests on you? They will be able to advise on your chances?
