What is ‘normal’ implantation bleeding?

Is red blood normal for implantation? Today is 16/17dpo. I tested positive with the faintest line last Sunday but then have had obvious lines ever since. Yesterday, I had some red bleeding and this then turned into brown bleeding - is this normal? Everywhere I have looked suggests red = bad but could it be a chemical if I’m still testing positive with quite dark lines?
This is my second pregnancy, my first ended in miscarriage at about 8 weeks so I’m terrified. I’m 4 weeks 3 days according to my LMP.

Hi OP, implantation bleeding is usually either pink or brown, it’s a different colour to usual period blood, and typically implantation bleeding would be just a bit on toilet roll after wiping or maybe a little bit of spotting so might require a panty liner but it wouldn’t be anywhere near enough to soak a pad/tampon if that makes sense, it is really light bleeding. It also usually happens between 10-14DPO so 16/17 is a bit late to see it.

It may be chemical, it may be an early loss (you can test positive for around 3 weeks even if miscarried) OR it could just be some bleeding in early pregnancy. Some bleeding in early pregnancy can be normal and not an indication that anything is wrong, I had some bleeding early in my pregnancy and I was really worried but that pregnancy resulted in my 7 month old baby on me now. I know how anxious I was in the early days so can totally understand how you feel but honestly try not to worry too much yet, lots of women have bleeding in early pregnancy and it is not a bad sign for everyone. Good luck x

When I was reading about implantation bleeding it seemed most people experience pink/brown spotting on wiping, however I had four days of heavy red bleeding with clots from 9-13dpo. I thought my period had come early and commiserated with a bottle of wine then got a bfp 😆.

I would keep testing every 2/3 days personally. If the bleeding stops and the lines are still dark it's implantation. If it's a chemical then you should know fairly soon. It's worrying, I've been there. Sending love and I hope this works out for you 💓

I'm sorry OP, but I too always thought implantation bleeding, if noticed, is before you've tested positive- many days before now.

I noticed it in 2 of 3 pregnancies. It was the tiniest speck on toilet paper, a yellow/brown colour. Nothing on underwear, nothing more and literally about a 2mm speck only. I'm sorry, but it does sound like a chemical, but wishing you all the best that its not. x

I've been spotting since 4DPO, light brown then pink then now brown again... I'd like to think it could possibly be Implantation but this is the 5th day of it now and I've never had it before at this time in my cycle...

Not enough to wear a pad as such but the odd day I've had it go on my underwear, mainly when I wipe.

Hmm mixed views - why is this such a horrible waiting game?!
Thanks everyone - I appreciate the good luck messages.
