IVF - will my day 3 embryos make it?

Hi all,

was really hoping for some advice or anyone’s experiences. We are currently in the IVF process due to a genetic condition we want to avoid passing on.

I have had my egg collection on Monday and they got 10 eggs, which I was so happy about. 6 of these matured and then 4 of these fertilised. I’ve had a day 3 update today to say 2 are good quality and where they should be but 2 are either slower developers or lower quality and whilst these could catch up to make it to day 5, it’s less likely.

Does anyone have any experience with similar numbers or know the likelihood of day 3 embryos reaching day 5?

Additional worry as these need to be frozen for testing😅

Would appreciate any advice xxx

Hi depending on quality of the day 3 I always worked on best case 50% of them making it to day 5 (that's being cautious) so I'd most likely say you'll get minimum 1 day 5

What are their grades? I found 100% of my top quality grade 1 made it to day 5 but 50% of grade 2 and 0% of grade 3 or 4

@onceisenoughinlife thanks for this. I haven’t been told the grading - is this something that can be determined at day 3?xxx

@MissAbell

Depends on your clinic but it was standard for mine (Create) to give a grading 1-4 of day 3 embryos and pretty sure most other clinics do the same (maybe not the same grading as they often have their own way of doing it)

Hi , can I ask what the outcome was for you ? I too have 4 x day 3 and wondering how many might get to day 5 ? Thanks

Hey! So I had two growing stronger and as expected and they were hoping the other two would catch up. By day 5, I had two strong ones which we could use for freezing and biopsy but the two which were growing slower didn’t catch up. Best of luck, hope they all make it!xx
