Hi all,
Newbie here! Just wondering what people recommend vitamins/supplements wise whilst TTC? I'm TTC cycle 1 so early days for me and googling this just took me down a rabbit hole! Would rather hear from people first hand 😊

Me and my partner have been to for over 10yrs and had no luck. I was taking folic acid but partner started taking well man vitamins and we finally got our BFP! The only thing we had changed was him taking them. Sadly we lost the baby but we’re back on the vitamins and crossing our fingers 🤞

dahlia1224 · 18/11/2024 18:16

thank you @DoraBella88, so sorry for your loss! I think if we have no luck for a few cycles will definitely mention that to him

@dahlia1224 this is me and my partners first cycle TTC also! We’re both taking the vitabiotics, me the pregnacare before conception and him the well man conception, hope this helps ☺️

dahlia1224 · 18/11/2024 18:45

@Knightbaby how have you found pregnacare (if you've been taking it long)? I can't remember if it was this one or another one that affected some peoples cycles! AF is due tomorrow for me, so that will decide which route of vitamins I go down...

Proceive woman
Vitamin D3
CoQ10
Vitamin E
Vitamin C
Myo-inositol

used to take maca and B6, and considering reintroducing them.

I read it starts with the egg and followed those recommendations, definitely recommend. I think Proceive is a good general prenatal though’

Dumptytree · 18/11/2024 19:17

If you are older or have trouble conceiving then do look at It starts with the egg. It really breaks down what you can take.

For me i've used Ovum which I found good and then for subsequent tried wild nutrition fertility which includes omega as I dont eat fish.

Also supplements should be secondary to diet. Lots of water, fruit, veggies, complex carbs and protein (and treats) they are vital.

MyGardenDaisies · 18/11/2024 19:27

myo inositol for regular cycle
CoQ10
Vit D and B
Omega 3
Agnus Castus to extend LP
Evening Primrose oil in follicular
Pregnacare for me Wellman for him

Oh yes ditto about evening primrose in follicular, I was getting a mix of starflower and evening primrose together although think boots stopped selling it

dahlia1224 · 18/11/2024 19:29

thanks everyone, I'm 28. I know I definitely need to work on my diet as well, it's not the best lol

Both on proceive pre-conception
omega 3
extra vitamin d
Co-q10
alpha lipoic acid

These are what I’ve changed to since having recurrent miscarriage. I’d recommend reading the book it starts with the egg if you want the best advice on vitamins and pre-conception lifestyle.

Knightbaby · 18/11/2024 20:14

@dahlia1224 I've never had any issues and used it before on a previous pregnancy, I was taking all my supps separately at high dosages previous to TTC, but after getting lost on Google and seeing what was safe and what not, just decided to take what is needed alongside a good diet, as was seeing a lot of mixed info 😐

HolyMerlot · 18/11/2024 20:38

Got my BFP this morning(!) and have been taking Folic Acid, Vitamin D and High Strength Omega 3 for the last few months. Also tried to improve my diet - oats with full fat milk, walnuts, almonds, blueberries and honey for breakfast, hummus with whole grain pita and carrots for lunch, protein and veg for dinner and upped my water intake (I bloody hate water). Basically feel like I'm eating a rabbit's diet Grin

Congratulations @HolyMerlot !!! I do need to make diet changes too, I’m trying to eat mostly protein and veg for dinner but some nights slip when not sure what to cook or partner wants something that has integrated carbs 😂

HolyMerlot · 18/11/2024 21:38

@1woodpecker Thank you! Breakfast and lunch was definitely easier to improve compared to dinners. I was told to eat a Mediterranean diet but started running out of dinner ideas (that are easy enough after work) fairly quickly. Even though I assume diet helps, we conceived via IUI (same sex couple) and for lunch a couple of hours before this cycle's successful procedure I had a greasy slice of cheese pizza from Greggs and a bucketload of pasta with garlic bread for dinner that night Grin

It’s all about balance 😂😂😂

HolyMerlot · 19/11/2024 07:06

Forgot to add to my original comment that this cycle I also drank 3 x 100ml cups of beetroot juice daily (from the day before ovulation right up to now). Not very pleasant but would recommend the Cawstons brand over the others that I tried. Also started on Pomegranate juice a few days ago. Not claiming that these do anything but I saw them recommended somewhere and figured it couldn't hurt!

blackberryhill · 19/11/2024 11:58

Currently I'm taking:

High quality multivitamin
Vitamin B-Complex
co-Q10
Vitamin E (twice daily)
Omega 3 (twice daily)
Magnesium powder before bed (for sleep/stress)

I also drink beetroot juice twice daily @HolyMerlot and definitely agree with your recommendation of Cawstons, less rank than the alternatives!

I was taking agnus castus and did when TTC#1 as well but now on letrozole so have stopped this as don't want to potentially mess with the letrozole's effect. I took maca in the past for a couple of cycles but seemed to mess with my ovulation so dropped it.

If you've just started trying then a general multivitamin containing folic acid is really all you need. co-Q10 is pretty universally recommended so not a bad one to add if you want to take something extra, and ditto Omega 3. For other supplements it's worth reading up before taking them, some of them can cause more harm than good depending on the specifics of your cycle.

dahlia1224 · 19/11/2024 17:26

congrats @HolyMerlot !! I'm awful with water too, I'm always drinking squash hahaha off to do the food shop later so will keep in mind all the advice, thank you everyone!
